old sw40F

I have a old SW40F which has been in storage for many years. It has less than 100 rounds through it. I was wondering if anyone had information on whether I should replace springs. It seems to run fine right now. Thanks for any relpies

Springs are interesting, They actually become, under normal use, stiffer with age (assuming no abuse) it is called spring hardening. So, with a few hundred rounds in the pistol, and with it working fine I'd just shoot it and have fun at the range. Unless they are corroded or rusty or you left the mags loaded you should be fine. Although if you want to put a Apex spring kit in it then by all means change the springs. I have both their spring kit and trigger in my sw9f that has 1000s of rounds thru it before the switch and approx 1000 rounds after and I am very happy with the results. The springs i removed were just fine for function still. I just didn't like the 10+ lb trigger pull.

clean it and shoot it. the springs are okay.

I would replace the trigger return spring. I bought a SW40F when they first came out, one of the first "faults" that surfaced with them is the end loop of the trigger spring would break off. S&W put a vibration dampener inside of the spring that looks like a piece of pipe cleaner, when that gets wet from bore/gun cleaner, it's no longer does it job.

I got rid of my SW40F after it spent more time at S&W repair (broken trigger return and trigger pin repeatedly backing out of the frame under recoil) than at the range during the first month I had it , so I do not know if S&W came out with a better spring down the road for the Sigma line as it has evolved quite a bit from the SW40F. That's about all I'd look into doing.
