Old Time Comedians

1970 was a long time ago.....

These are exactly "old time", but...

Benny Hill and the Monty Python troupe.

Has anybody mentioned Tim Conway.

John Belushi

The Unknown Comic

Don Rickles

Steve Martin

Cheech Marin and Tommy Chong

Jerry Clower

George Carlin as long as he isn't talking about religion.

Bill Cosby's records in the 60s'.

Rodney Dangerfield

Vaughn Meader, Honorable Mention for worst luck to befall a comedian. In his 20's he produced a record, "The First Family", a super popular impersonation on the Kennedy administration. When JFK was assassinated, Lenny Bruce stated, "Vaughn Meader's had it' (paraphrase) Meader continued to work but between typecasting and his association with bad news caused the rest of his career to be a series of failures.

For those of you familiar with the infamous hatchet throwing Ed Ames incident on the Tonite show it's not well known that the other guest was Myron Cohan the Jewish comedian . During a lull in the extended laughter Cohan turned to Johnny Carson and quipped' "Well Johnny if he Wasn't Jewish before he's Jewish now!" This has been edited out of the clips available online today(political correctness?) and it sent the audience into another period of extended laughter. The only reason I even know this is I happened to be watching the Tonite show live that evening.
