Old timers first time .22 Revolver (thinking model 17 classic)

I have a pre-17 K-22 and a model 17-3. Both are 6" and fine shooters. We have a really nice indoor range in Fairbanks, and last week, just for fun, I put about 300 rounds of .22 shorts through the K-22. Very accurate and extremely quiet. Find an old 17 if you can. The uglier, the better. They're fantastic shooters.

I own a 4" 617. It's a fun revolver to shoot, and I will routinely run 100 rounds through it at the range. If you go the newer 10 shot route, I would definitely purchase a speed loader set up. I have the Speed Beez.

In my opinion the 4" 617 is great for field use, but if you're looking for a target revolver the 6" K-22/Model 17 is in a class by itself. There's a lot of old K-22's out there with honest wear and maybe even a little surface rust that also have mint bores and perfect mechanics. Find one and clean it up, experiment with different kinds of ammo until you find the one it likes, and enjoy.

I appreciate your perspective and your advice has helped me focus my thinking.
it seems many of you share the thought that there is something special about an original. I'm still not sure what represents the sweet spot for the 6" k-22's (or model 17's). but it sounds like earlier is better. and now it becomes the fun adventure of finding an outdoorsman or (-1,-2, -3). and the other part of this fun equation is locating something in my state of Massachusetts or learning about Gunbroker. I just want to let you know that I sincerely appreciate your help. Thank you.
