Here's a few more I dug out. The first one is a Ladysmith shipped in 1908. Next is a nickel Terrier from 1953. Lastly, some 1/2 nickel jobs.

Three more nickel revolvers

This is a 1929 5" .38 target.

This next gun is the 1st post-WW2 K-32. It was originally a blue salesmans sample. When the first order came in, it was for a nickel gun. So, they refinished the blue samesman's sample !

This last picture is two 4" post-WW2 combat masterpieces. One is a 4-screw, and the other is a 3-screw. The one with the factory smooth rosewood grips (the 3-screw) has a special-order polished front sight.

The oldest I have (Model of 1899)

This is the oldest I have, nickel worn off of rear of frame but I still like it. Needs correct extractor knob but this one works.

Nickel Model 1 1/2

This a Model 1 1/2 32 RF. My wife's Grandfather carried this in Russia 1917-1918 he was a Methodist minister serving with the YMCA providing comfort to the White Russia troops fighting the Bolsheviks.

This is my only nickle firearm. It belonged to my father. He purchased it from a Caddo Parish Deputy Sheriff sometime in the late 50's or early 60's. He kept it under the counter in his store. Never fired in anger while he owned it. Don't know any previous history. It was manufactured about 1923.

Nice looking firearms Doc and everyone's else as well. I sure like them when S$W left the front sights blue. Things have sure gone to hates since these were made, IMHO.

Wow, you all have me beat! Didn't pull anything out but have model 29 6&1/2 inch in nickel I bought in 76, a model 49 in nickel I bought around 83 and stumbled across a model 58 in nickel which I love. Still jealous of earlier models you all have. Need to mention I have a model 58 blue with SAPD on it. Receipt even shows police turn in. Shoot it the most. Nickel is too hard to clean....

Colt .25 ACP "Vest Pocket" factory nickel

Not a Smith, but........Colt magazine, but not the original, I think.
Numbers match, the pearls are very nice, but again, not from Colt...

I've got an old M&P similar to the OP's that I bought at a yard sale about 15 years ago. I think it was made around '46 or '47.
I also have a nickel model 15 but it was made in the 70s, too late for this thread.

It should have an S prefix serial number higher than about S877xxx. If you post the full serial number, I can give you a pretty close estimate of its ship date. I'd also like to enter it in my research notes on the S prefix M&P revolvers.

This one is not wearing an original nickel finish (note the plating on the hammer and trigger). Once I have the serial number, I can tell you the likelihood of it being blued or nickel when it left the factory.

Yes, I figured it was probably refinished but it shoots well and I paid a yard sale price for it.

What I failed to tell you in my PM is that I don't show any in that serial range that shipped with the nickel finish. That doesn't mean none did, just that they have not shown up in my research. There are a few groupings of nickel guns in the S prefix range, so it appears they were produced mostly in batches (which makes sense). With less than 1,000 examples identified in my research so far, out of a possible 180,000, it is a little bit hard to come to any conclusions on some matters, including the number that got the nickel finish. However, I believe those are relatively scarce.
