Another watch thread for the ires of quartz alike (seriously, I like quartz too). I know we have some Omega lovers here too.
Finally got my Omega Pro last January and have wanted an alligator strap and OEM Omega deployant clasp since, the clasp don't come cheap as you know, so I bought them for myself as a X-mas present. Life's too short. I opted for the "older" style clasp without the buttons because they have two pins on the inside to attach your strap plus it has a lower profile than the new ones so it lays flatter on the wrist, perfection.
I was seeking the Hesalite Sandwhich because the view case back was a must and I wanted to be able to polish any scratches out of the crystal that it would inevitably get plus it had to be on the bracelet, easy enough.
Sad thing is, I haven't worn any of my other watches in a year now because I can't take the dang thing off.
You know me, lots of pictures.

My Christmas present to myself. I have wanted one since 1969. The excellent bracelet is in the box, and this is a leather NATO. I am wearing it on a nylon NATO today, and awaiting a Komfit band.

I really like the way Omega brought back the stepped dial and the DON bezel, more traditional.

For those who don't know, "DON" means "dot over ninety". I hemmed and hawed about getting this new 3861 Moon Watch with the original hesalite (plexiglass) crystal or the "sapphire sandwich". My tendency to be hard on watches led me to the sapphire. Not to mention that it also allows me to gaze on the beauty of that co-axial movement.

Edit to add: Not the best picture, but here is that 3861

After 50 years of wearing my Speedy Pro, bought at a Canadian AF base in West Germany, when I was an enlisted man in the USAF before the moon shot ever occurred, I finally relented to transfer caretakership to a friend in exchange for two guns and a boatload of cash...I miss that watch, but he lets me ask him for the correct time when I see him...:D...Ben

I first became aware of the Omega Speedmaster Professional aka "Moonwatch" shortly after Apollo 11 touched down on the moon, and Omega was advertising the fact that their watch was worn on the moon in various magazines. I always thought the dual heritage of being a chronograph developed for the auto racing sport plus being the only watch that passed NASA's rigorous testing criteria was very cool and told myself that I'd have one "when I grew up".

Well it took a little over 50 years but I decided I wasn't getting any younger so I bought myself a Christmas present a couple of years ago. I went with the Hesalite crystal and sealed back even though being able to see the movement is a great feature. I believe the sapphire "sandwich" dial makes for a slightly thicker watch and it's already fairly bulky for my taste.
They do look great with a leather band.

That's why I wanted the Hesalite sandwich, I knew I'd scratch the crystal eventually and I have, but it buffs right out with Mothers and I get to enjoy that beautiful mvt. Sapphire is really hard to scratch, but I'd manage to scratch regardless and then I'd be stuck with the scratch.
My Mk40 Cosmos Speedy has the sapphire that I've managed to keep clear so far. Probably because I don't wear it as much since I got the Pro, but honestly, I like the Triple Date feature better.

Ok so I like watches. I have a dozen. But the most expensive one I have is about $400. Do you guys not worry about damaging those things. Someone posted they were hard on their watch so opted for sapphire. Why would you do hard things wearing that watch. If you can afford that . I assume you have others. I don’t get it. My son and daughter in law have matching Rolex. He bought them less than a year ago. He wore it deer hunting. I asked if he was worried about loosing it when he guts a deer. He said he doesn’t take it off to gut deer. He shot 2 this year so I assume he left it on. I forgot to ask.

03hemi, are you the guy who's been posting about his new alligator shoes? If not, ya better get some to go with that beautiful watch band!

Here's my cheapskate contribution to this beauty pagent: Citizen Eco-Drive Corso. Quartz. Runs on light, 8 secs fast a month, luminous hands, stainless steel and real (extremely thin but highly scratch resistant) gold, water resistant to 150 meters. $300 now but $180 a year ago when I bought it off Amazon.

At a recent family reunion, my BIL, who is something of a reverse snob when it comes to the finer things in life, asked me if I was wearing a Rolex.

While he clearly knows nothing about Rolexes other than that they are expensive and he therefore dislikes them, it was fun to tell him archly — and tongue in cheek, of course — "No. It is a Citizen. Better than a Rolex!"

I had to change the battery last night on my roughly 25 year old Plain Jane Vic Swiss Army quartz watch which is dead nuts accurate, no exaggeration, between DST changes (Ronda movement). I would never use all those little dials and buttons even if the watch had them. The only service it has ever needed is the occasional battery change. Can't say that about a Rolex.

Simple, don't do anything work related wearing a nice watch, take it off or don't wear it. Before I retired I would take my watch off at my office to keep from getting desk scuffs on the bracelet, just be cognitive of what you're doing.

I like quartz, I had an Eco Drive too that was a great watch.
lol, someone had a fashion thread going where people were posting different things, so yes, that was me. I've always wanted some alligator dress shoes, have several pairs of crocodile boots, but have wanted alligator shoes since I was a young man. I ain't gett'n any younger, so...

I can gaurantee that quartz is more accurate than any Omega or Rolex!

This was my Citizen Eco-Drive (pic from the web).

It was a Perpetual Calendar Minute Repeater and boy was it fun to set. Seriously, it was a pain in the arse to set, and the capacitor went out in it and it was before I knew they could be easily fixed so a jewler actually gave me $300 credit towards this Seiko Sportura Retrograde Flyback with a 1/100 sec sub dial.
Still wear it too, one of my favorites.

My best friend/cigar buddy loved it so much he sold his fathers Submariner Rolex to get a Sportura similar to mine. (he hates flash too)
fwiw-Cigars are Cuban Bespoke, torpedos.
