Omega Professional & Alligator- Timeless

My Christmas gift this year was a Bulova automatic from their Sinatra collection. I mainly got it because I just liked having a Frank Sinatra watch. It’s an actually a pretty nice watch.

My everyday watch continues to be a 1960’s Benrus automatic that cost me $5 at an auction. Best $5 I ever spent.

What would Dave Ramsey think about all this frivolous spending on material things?
He would love it, Dave's not against having nice things, he just preaches if you can't pay cash for nice things maybe you can't afford them? You don't know Dave. lol

After 50 years of wearing my Speedy Pro, bought at a Canadian AF base in West Germany, when I was an enlisted man in the USAF before the moon shot ever occurred, I finally relented to transfer caretakership to a friend in exchange for two guns and a boatload of cash...I miss that watch, but he lets me ask him for the correct time when I see him...:D...Ben
Very nice, for those that don't know, this watch is referred to as the "Pre Moon" (pre moon shot) with the most sought after mvt of all, the Holy Grail 321mvt. for which all other mvts since have mirrored with subtle changes, the exception being the newer current Co-Axel mvt.
Bet you do miss that jewel Truckman!

My father had one of the early Bulova Accutron watches he got as a service award in the early 1960s. It was the model where you could see the works inside. He wore it until sometime in the mid-70s when it quit working and he did not want to pay whatever the cost of repairing it was, so he bought a digital watch. I don't remember the brand but it had a red LED display with fairly small numbers. Those were sort of new at the time. The Accutron was in his things after he died and I carried it around from town to town for some years afterward. No idea where it went as I do not remember giving it or throwing it away. I probably couldn't get it repaired even if I found it. I know that they were tons of them sold and it probably wouldn't be worth the cost of repairing it even if I did run across it. I don't think those early Accutrons were quartz but they were electronic.

Those Omega Speedmasters are awesome. I bought one in the
1973 for $225.00. Big bucks back then. It was the first watch
that went to the moon series. I used it when I was getting my
instrument rating to time holding patterns. The clocks on Cessna
152/172 airplanes always seemed to be inoperative.

I sold it on Ebay 8 to 10 years ago for $2,800.00 or so. Nice
return on investment. :)

I had to look that up. Hard to imagine that a singer dead for over 25 years can still sell watches. Men'''s Frank Sinatra Watches | Bulova

"The Spaceview," as many were called or just Acutron and yes, electric. Very repairable and cool collector pieces today. Find it and have it repaired, they're really cool watches. May have looked something similar to this? They had several models, but worth in the $2k range running fwiw. Of course being your dad's would be priceless.

Yeah, Sinatra was actually a Bulova brand ambassador for them back in the day when they all had manual Swiss mvts.
I believe some of the new ones do too, but many have a Chinese quartz mvt in them now.

I am old enough to be somewhat of a Sinatra fan, and I have many of my favorite Sinatra songs on my driving music USB drive. But I am not enough of a fan to be tempted by any of those watches in his collection. I'll stay with my SAW.

I did a search and there are indeed several places that specialize in repair of the old Accutrons. But I expect that a repair is somewhat pricey. I notice one place charges $65 just to make a repair cost estimate. If I do ever find my dad's watch, I may check into repair.

When I retired from the police department back in 2019 (after just shy of 37 years of service), my wife checked one off of her bucket list- she bought me a Submariner.
About three years ago I treated myself to a Seamaster.

I would like to own a very nice watch, but I spend all my disposable money on guns.😀 Because of that, this is what I wear on my arm. Of course, it’s orange because I am a Clemson fan!👍 It keeps perfect time, or at least perfect enough for me. Now I am going to ask a question that hopefully won’t get me kicked off the forum. I realize that you get what you pay for, but I have seen a ton of favorable reviews on watches from this place. Are they worth the money?

To me, $400-500 is a lot to spend on a watch. Does anyone here have one?

That seems expensive for a fake Rolex that probably comes from China. You could buy a much better watch for the same money that is not a fake Rolex. An Invicta closely resembles a Rolex but without the Rolex name and has a good Seiko automatic movement. And it sells for far less than those fake Rolexes. I don't think much of buying a blatant fake. [ame]https://www.amazon.com/Invicta-8926OB-Stainless-Automatic-Bracelet/dp/B000JQFX1G[/ame]

One can buy a quartz watch like a Casio G Shock for around $40 that certainly is more accurate than any Rolex or Omega. And you can wear it swimming, gutting a deer or working on your car. But just telling the time isn't what owning an expensive mechanical watch is all about. You can easily buy a very nice looking quartz dress watch for around $100 if you don't want the equivalent of a Glock like a plastic Casio.

I bought one of those tools to remove the backs of quartz watches to change the batteries myself because I got tired of going to the jewelry store and paying them $12 or so to put in a $3 battery. And I bought a few batteries for each on Amazon so I'd have them on hand.

Regarding fakes, that is quite frowned upon. For a lot of different reasons.

I have no need for any more watches but the Seiko Grand Seiko spring drive watches sure are attractive in their dress watch styles. They'd be just the thing to wear with a James Bond tuxedo. If I had a tuxedo and a place to wear it.

deleted double post.

G-Shock's are a great watch, a bit bulky but great the same.
99.9% Fake watches scream broke Richard "wannabe" so they suck like a tick, trust me, watch guys know they're fake pretty much immediately too.
There are some super clones in the $1000 range though.

Unless it isn't in the picture, that Omega is a Seamaster. Oh well, an excuse to get a Speedmaster, right?

You got to love a mechanical watch. Those Omega's ( and Rolex's) are great watches too.

I have to content myself with a Microbrand (Islander) diver. Not an Omega but it was less than 6% of the cost of one. Has a Miyota 9015 automatic movement The bracelet and clasp is milled stainless and accuracy has been within COSC standards (on par with an Omega/Rolex).
