Yesterday, I spend the majority of the day at the ER.
Since the end of April, my mom has been dealing with number of bacterial infections - they're treatable with antibiotics, but she keeps having reoccurrences, but with different bacterial strains. This latest one has been a bit stubborn, probably resistant.
Anyway, I took my mom to the ER at recommendation of her PCP after my mom was running a bit of a fever, had the chills and was very fatigued. I called for advice after reading the warnings about the Rx. No one was sure if it was a reaction to the latest antibiotic or the infection spreading - sepsis.
After tests, it turns that after 4 days on the new antibiotic, it wasn't enough and the infection, while somewhat diminished, was still there. The ER doc didn't want to admit her, so she was prescribed Cipro and started last night. I'm glad we went.
She looks 100% better. But, my mom is sensitive to antibiotics, especially, due to her age, 87, so I'm hoping this works and there are no complications from this powerful antibiotic.
