I saw a ad for concealed carry permit and I live in Florida and it says I qualify. No in person test or shooting. Is this true or a scam?

It may be advertising for an out-of-state nonresident CCW permit that Florida accepts.

But how difficult is it to get a Florida permit? That would seem like the best option.

The law in Florida now allows a resident, who in all ways is qualified for a concealed carry license, to carry concealed WITHOUT a license. There are several reasons why you might want to get the actual license anyway. For instance, no waiting period on handgun purchases. Also, many states have reciprocity with Florida on concealed carry, but that only applies if you actually have a license.

In any case, if this ad wanted you to pay even one red cent, then it is a total scam. You don't have to pay anything to carry... again, IF you are fully qualified according to the statutes. If you want a REAL Florida concealed carry license, then you have to get it through the state Dept. of Agriculture, and nowhere else.

Ok, I'll contact my local gun store that I do business with and ask them. I probably have 70 sales with them but never applied for CWP even the wife and kids did years ago. LOL I just hate red tape dealing with that ****.

I get that same email almost everyday and just delete it, never having opened it I have no idea what it actually says. Years ago Florida was one of the states that offered a CCL to non-resident's. You just had to fill out the application, send them their fee and they would issued you a permit. Problem was that the majority of states, mine included, did not recognize non resident Florida CCL permit's. Since the permit wasn't recognized by other states it was worthless unless I was carrying in Florida. My state was eventually forced by the court's to offer CCL permit's and I have been carrying ever since.

I get that all the time - total scam (for Louisiana residents for sure). I don't know how they get away with it. I've talked to their CS people to explain that it's no good here but they keep advertising.

As you know the internet is loaded with misinformation and outright lies. Some accidental, some malicious.
On critical issues you should not depend on a stranger's version of the truth. Making an honest mistake with a weapon due to bad advice can land you in prison.
You need to find the state's up to date code published by the state online. Read it. Read it again.

Im a piss poor typer and it is all on their sight. easy to do online Got my nonresident permit all online Do it wasy

When you got your non resident permit did you have to supply proof of safety class? In 2017 I had to. I always thought it was weird that dept of Agriculture handled it.

If you are a legal resident of the State and have no criminal record getting a CCW is fast and easy to get. That said, if you are a resident no permit is required for CCW.

That said, a permit does afford you some extra privileges. The hard copy of the permit is recognized in many States outside of FL but only if you are a FL resident and actually produce the permit. It also allows a bunch of other items worth getting it for.

Check the ad carefully . It talks about " qualifying " for a permit . It's a scam of sorts . YOUR State laws supersede these Internet ads .

It's baloney.

You " qualify" because concealed weapons and firearms licenses are no longer necessary in The State of Florida, and unless you're a felon or other person who's legally prohibited from owning a firearm, you can carry a concealed firearm in Florida if you're at least 21 years old.

The new law now allows for the carry of weapons other than firearms without a license as well.

All of this goes for visitors and non residents as well; folks here on vacation can carry a concealed gun and/or other weapons, without a permit

BTW: Florida still issues concealed weapons and firearms licenses to those who want one for reasons of reciprocity during travel, and who want to be able to carry their gun within the federally restricted distance from schools (500 or 1000 feet I can't recall which) which requires a license issued by the state in which the school is located.

Additionally, there is no "waiting period " for license holders therefore they can buy a gun and walk home with it immediately.

Background checks conducted by The Florida Department of Law Enforcement at time of purchase are still required for license holders since our licenses aren't issued by law enforcement, but rather by The Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services.

There's actually a little bit more to it than that. You have to meet all of the requirements listed in statute 790.06. That includes, among other things, being able to prove that you have had formal firearms safety training.

You can find all of the requirements here: Statutes & Constitution
