My last name has been my headache, Lowd pronounced Loud. Of Scottish dissent originally McLowde (I believe), ancestor's Americanized it long ago. When our son was born I wanted his middle name to be Mick, that way if he didn't want to introduce himself with the last name Lowd he could say his full name and it would sound like McLowde--but my wife wouldn't go for it. I guess it is better than at my last job, when of my client's last names was Pusy. I know it is impolite, but when I spoke with him on the phone--I always called him by his first name.
The sister of a good college buddy just had a baby a couple years ago, and named it Zeppelin Kiddo. Imagine going through life with that name....as a girl.
