On the hunt for a 945!!!

Beautiful pistols gentlemen. My friend Jeppo came by the range today and generously allowed me to try his beautiful 945.

Six shots of 230 ball at the 7 yard line. I will have on of those too, someday. ;) Thank you again Jeppo! Regards 18DAI

6! Shots !?? Thats awesome thats like 600.00 in ammo haha.... great shooting gun! AND great shooting 18!

Well, I never came across a 945, in person. And until 2018/19 I had never shot one. When I downsized the herd in 2016, I sold everything that was not able to be used for serious purpose. And didn't look for or consider target pistols. And I'm not a collector, just a shooter.

BUT - after I finally got to shoot one, I realized what all the fuss was about. ;) So, I will be owning a target only 945. In 5 inch. As soon as I come across an affordable shooter. :) Regards 18DAI

The basic 945 is a 5-inch target pistol with Bomar rear sight. Then there is a 4-inch model with a Novak fixed rear sight and both of these are steel frame.

Then there are two compacts, one a bit smaller than the other, both alloy frame with Novak fixed rear sight.

In this series they also made the very scarce 945-40 in .40 S&W caliber. Sadly, they never made the 945 in a 5-inch target sight .40cal, as that is a gun that I would love to own.

Smith should've made a run of 5-inch 945-10s - i.e., chambered in 10mm AUTO, with the capability to use the 9-rd mags from the 10XX-series guns.

Talk about an accurate single-action blaster with the durability to handle high-performance 10mm ammo, certainly better than a Delta Elite.

I know of a couple of us that own 10mm's that would have loved to see that . I own a 1006and a 1076 and they both shot well . But to couple the accuracy and build quality of a 945 with the 10mm , that would have been something they should have thought about .

They did make a 945-40 , but they are rare . And to convert one , well you'd bring the S&W gods down on you . Besides , if I remember right , they were 4in pistols .

4200chevy, Sorry folks, been battling the snow here in the northeast... From the great folks on this forum leading/guiding me, the 945 is the way to go. Great fit, finish and accuracy as well as fun to take on the paper. Check the LGS's, GB, etc. Commander or full size, you'll enjoy.

Those are truly beautiful pistols.

Someone one here contacted me and said he had one for sale. I messed up and used my personal email in the want to buy section on here. So he emailed me pics and a price. I read the email and looked at the pics and with about 5 minutes of research learned he was a scammer. His name is tonybrooks686. Or thats his email at least. He wanted 1700.00 for the gun but showed me pics of a gun I found on Google with a simple search.just wanted everyone to be aware. There are *******s around every corner waiting to steal your hard earned money. This drives me absolute crazy. My mother in law was scammed out of 1100.00 for a colt gold cup special edition that she ordered as a gift for her husband.so sometimes these guys get lucky and find someone not very savvy about this side of the private sale industry. Either way I just wanted to comment and let oeopke know that there is a thief amongst us on this forum..

I would say don't trust anybody with a couple of posts , but I scored my 4536 and a NIB 59 from newbies . This was a while ago , seems like the past year or two they've been hitting this forum .

I have been out of the SW game for some time. from about 1998 to 2008, I was in... head first.

I was able to find the Wave version (945-1) and while very 4500 frame it was 1911ish. If that makes sense.

Accuracy and reliability were A+A+A+A+A+A+A+A+

The only thing I hated about PCs (whether CQBs, DPA, Shorty 45, and 945) was that damn Briley Spherical bushing. Oh hell, you want that for accuracy but pull out the dictionary for vulgarities as its a PITA to line back up.

sometimes I would get lucky and it would go back on with ease and there were times where I would walk away. I even made a dowel rod (wooden) tool to keep the bushing square with the barrel when trying to line up.

good luck with your search, the 945 is a sweet piece.

Back then, I my goal was to find an early 945 (no dash) with a bomar rear sight. it had an odd shape to it. Never found one, only saw it in the gun magazines.

here is a picture of it. My guess was a prototype and only one made. Frame exterior lines and squared trigger guard made it look different than the ones made.

I have several PC pistols , so I know what you mean by the Briley bushing being a pain in the a** . I can't remember where I heard it , but here's a way to make it easier .

You put your finger in the bushing and can't it as far as you can towards the angle the barrel is coming in at . It still takes a little finesse , but it's the easiest way I've found .

I shoot at least one of my PC's every week and I was going crazy messing with that bushing , as I'm guessing you are . Good Luck

I sold my years ago. I should still have the wooden dowel I made. My fingers did not fit in the bushing and the dowel rod was very similar in squaring the bushing to the barrel or vice versa.

If you are interested in a concealed carry gun this 945-1 is the smallest one they made. 3.25" barrel. It's a great carry gun. It's not as accurate as a 5 inch target model but it isn't expected or designed to be. Product Code: 170184 (B)
