Merle Haggard was born, passed on his birthday on 2016.
Singer songwriter extraordinary. Poet of the common man.
From a troubled youth to a country music superstar.

Note that Bonnie is also on this one. I think he loved her his entire life.

I had the great pleasure of seeing him at a Marlboro concert at the old Houston Summit. Louise Mandrel, T G Shephard, and Ronnie Milsap. Merle was the last to perform. Each artist did about 45 minutes. When Merle got to the end if his portion of the show he said he still like playin' some more country music. He did another 45 minutes. He was a consummate country singer/writer/performer/human being.

I'm so glad I got to see him live. I'll never forget it.
