That which is earned is usually held in a higher place than that which is given without cost. And more highly cherished! Thank you for your service to your chosen country.
 
At my daughter's graduation ceremony from Parris Island, there were several young men and women who had completed their citizenship qualifications while simultaneously going through Marine boot camp.

They received a standing ovation from all who were present.
 
On this day in 1975 I was 5 days out of high school and walked through the gates of the Coke Plant. They weren't drafting anymore so I learned about Nam & the military from my co-workers. Some of the stories were God awful. I have all the respect in the world for the vets, whether you saw battle or not. One guy told me about a battle that I later found out was the Tet Offensize.
