On Vacation

The wife and I are on vacation. Seems that even with being retired I’m enjoying vacation even more so!
Lovely Myrtle Beach with a beach front pad! Life is good!

While here in Myrtle Beach we had our anniversary and my birthday dinner here at the Flamingo Grill, the food was excellent.
Upon leaving I spoke with one of the owners to compliment them on their food and service. Here it turns out this gentleman was originally from our hometown! He said he picked up on my PA Dutch accent right of way! I never really I thought I had that?
But what a small world!
When here in Myrtle Beach I highly recommend this restaurant!

I have a friend celebrating their 42 anniversary in the Smokey's as we speak. This morning I get a text video from him, I'm expecting a video on some hike or BBQ shop! Nope, it is of the monsoon coming down outside his patio door. The nice little babbling brook right there has become a very pleasant (for now) waterfall!

Drive a little ways south to Murrell's Inlet and have lunch at the Inlet Crabhouse. The BEST fried shrimp anywhere around and the she-crab soup will create a lasting memory!

p.s. While down that way,take in Brookgreen Gardens which features many,many sculptures by Anna Hyatt Huntington. You won't be disappointed.

We had one heck of a storm last night with tornados in the surrounding areas.
But we were still here in the morning high and dry!

.... "SSSSH", Tom. It's already gotten to be a 30 minute wait to get seated sometimes.

As you say, their she crab soup has no rival, and despite the corny name, the piazza crab dip is outstanding.
There is a place up in NMB, "California Dreaming" that runs a close second in the she crab soup department.

The Colorado Kids are here for vacation.
I was more than happy to take a few days
off to show em' around the area lakes.
After 7 straight days of fishing, here is the only pic so far.

It's a good time of year to be down at the beach. Enjoy it to the fullest.

Vacation is better when you're retired. You may come back home to grass that needs mowing, but that beats a zillion pounds of work piled on your desk, and 2 zillion email and voicemails.

Might as well head on down the the Pawley's Island Hammock Shops while you are headed down 17.

Get to fishing in the area if you can, my pastor limited out on sea trout a couple of days ago.

Spent the afternoon touring this old girl! Seen everything I could from top to bottom. My only disappointment was not being able to see the boilers!
Was in the Engineering space but not down to the boilers.
Afterwards, an outstanding dinner at the Flamingo Seafood Grill....

I don't know much about ship's boilers; but while it may make me seem a simpleton, I was impressed greatly by the size of the stainless steel drums they mashed and creamed the potatoes in.
Looked like a round dump truck bed.

No way they used left-over mashed potatoes and peels to fuel the boilers is it ?

Happen to see "Sam the Alligator" sunning on the river bank ?

As a former Boiler Operator aka Stationary Engineer, I always have to check on the boilers! Wanted to see what some vintage (1937 ?)B&W boilers looked like since those were the type we had and operated.

I've really enjoyed your pics and posts.
Mine was another stay-cation with rarely seen kin.
After dropping the Colorado Kids at the airport(2 hour predawn trip) I decided to nap and recover a little on my last vacate day.
Too tired to fish I decided to shoot instead this afternoon
