First off let me say thanks to the forum. I was reading the thread about the "molested" pre model 27 listed on Gunbroker and being the curious type I had to hunt it down and see if it looked as bad as some described. Well I found it and had almost had myself talked into it not being that bad Etc, Etc but I just could not get by the spots on the cylinder where the hot gases had removed the Cerokote down to bare metal.

Then I decided before I jump what the heck lets see what other 3 1/2s are listed and their asking prices.

Lo and behold among all the $1000+ dollar ones there sits one at Kittery Trading Post in good shape with a fair starting price and NO bids but 5 days to go. Look at the pictures and note that it is an S serial number in the 297xxx range which puts it about 1968 or so. Figuring it to be a lost cause I went ahead and put in a bid in the maximum amount that I was willing to pay and began to watch. Every day I would check and see if anyone had started driving the price out of my range and every day it remained with just my bid.

Today at 2:15 PM that 3 1/2" Model 27-2 became mine. By 2:30 it had been paid for and the FFL was being faxed.

Life is good.

Kittery

I wasn't aware that Kittery had an auction site. How do you access it?

Looks great. Excellent choice. And I love your style of digging and finding a great buy.

I bought my 27-2 in 3.5" from an old gent who had rented a 1/4 table at multiple gun shows to sell it. I had talked to him before. That day he was ready to sell.

I will tell you that I do love this revolver. It is my constant companion.

Jebus35745 the starting and ending bid was $795.
Swampersand the gun was on the Gunbroker site. KTP had it listed there.
I also love the 3 1/2 Model 27 I have owned several in the past including one that was on patrol in Dallas on the day JFK was assassinated. I sold off almost all my Smith collection several years ago and now I am slowly re-acquiring the models that I have most regretted selling. This purchase checks off another on that list.

Congratulations on getting a great looking firearm.

A 3 1/2"Model 27-2 was my first and only revolver for over 30 years.
Wrongly, I sold it and am now looking to get one again.
I think it is one of the best pistols ever made.
Congratulations!

Sweet piece indeed, congrats!
I have not seen a short barrel 27 in my neck of the woods in a dog's age. If a local shop gets one they don't hang around long that's for sure.

I bought a mint looking 27-2 with 3.5 in barrel about 5 years ago that looked mint but the buyer disclosed that it had a name engraved on the frame under the grip area. I said what the heck and bought it as a shooter. So congratulations on the purchase of a highly sought after S&W revolver.

Nice. No one here blames you for jumping on it.

I traded mine, as a friend had to have it and I felt deserved it. Gives me something to wait for again...Nice gun at a good price.

Sa-Weet! I've never owned one but it's on my list..always though they were one of the "sexy" smiths made...

Nice score!:D

I've never really warmed up to the 3 1/2in barreled 27 , but I'd probably take one in that condition if a deal came along. It could keep my 5in 27-2 company!

nice gun you have there, i luckely fond mine 3,5 inch here in Belgium, where there are rare, you find 4, 5 and 6 inch ,with are the standard lenghts but 3,5 are hard to find.
