One Gun: For whatever reason, you can only have one. What is it and why?

Who knows what the future holds, but for legal, economic and/or other reasons, if things became so desperate that you had to go down to one gun, what would it be and why? Whatever you choose (pistol, rifle, shotgun etc.), it has to be from your current inventory. If you want to also add a gun you don't currently own but you'd like for that situation, certainly mention that as well.

I have a good many guns...

But my go to gun when shooting is to be done is my 9mm Shield.

I have a 3rd Gen S&W and a Sig, but they are full size and heavier for carry. The third gen is alloy though, is a good shooter and has a good capacity, so it would be my second choice.

The Kel Tec P11 is a small back-up gun.

I have several revolvers but they only hold 6 rounds.

I have a Kel Tec Sub 2000 9mm but it's not quite rugged enough to heavily depend on and for an extended period. I love the way it handles and the capacity of 30 rounds helps. I would like a PCC, maybe a Ruger or Beretta.

I like my lever rifle, but it's only a .22 and I prefer a centerfire for serious work.

I have an SKS that would be good for many things, but is a little heavy for constant use and a max load is 10 rounds.

Neither my bolt 30-06 or Mosin Nagant hold enough rounds and they are rather slow to use.

I have a few shotguns, the best probably being a Browning A5, but it is heavy and buiky. It's a real Belgium Browning from 1929, and all the parts are milled, nothing stamped. I also have a cheapo pump gun that would work well for most everything but I don't trust it for hard use either.

Probably pick my 4 inch 629-6. Not a bad carry or SD gun with the right holster and load combo. Since I reload, anything from small game and targets thru big game is possible. Being a newer model, it is D&T, so mounting a scope or RD sight is also possible if conditions call for it. It would cover most all activities I do with a handgun.

A close second choice would be my commander size Kimber steel framed Aegis Elite Pro 1911 with its suppressor height sights, and Vortex red dot, in .45 acp, for the reasons noted above.

I should note that while I carry for SD, and enjoy shooting at the range, and plinking, I am also a fairly serious handgun hunter, so a long gun, or small carry gun will not meet all my needs.

Depends on the state of the country........................

a 4" 686 is the best general purpose .357/.38 for duty/utility... can be carried concealed (mine's a round butt) wide range of ammo available and with speedloaders .......fairly fast to reload.... been with me since 1986.

My 3" 66 would be hard to give up. Since 1988 my cc revolver.

SHTF to TEOTWAWKI...... a 9mm; probably favor my Wilson Combat Centurion Tactical.......it has all the upgrades made to the Beretta 92 over the past 35 years. (D-spring, Decocker only, locking block, upgraded sights, radiused backstrap and thin G-10 grips, rail for a light)

18+1. With 20 (and 30rd) factory mags available.

4.25 inch slide for easier IWB carry

Second choice my PC Shorty-9 with a stash of 12rd and +2 15rd mags.

In many ways an AR carbine or 11-12" AR Pistol would be "better" if it's a SHTF or worse situation......

But better to avoid "shootouts" that favor a long gun. If you're not part of a organized platoon the odds are stacked against you as a individual......... Someone else with Dad's old hunting rifle will snipe you from 250 yds before you even know they are there, if they don't know you and see the AR!!!

I'd rather have a concealable gun that allows you to keep your hands free to do all the chores and other stuff that will be required. And keep a low profile.

As Muss said ..... be on the lookout to "acquire" a M-4..... plate carrier and a stash of loaded mags! Suppressor would be nice!!!! :D

That said I agree with Steelslaver :D

I actually had to do this several years ago for financial reasons, and I'd probably make the same choice I did then, my 642-1. I'm familiar with it, I can shoot it well, and it has more concealment options than my other guns (probably not going to be pocket or ankle carrying my Beretta 92FS anytime soon).

I'm a Beretta 92 Fanboy ..... but I agree with a lot of folks the full size gun (4.9") is too big... bigger than it needs to be.

IMHO the Compact and Centurion are better sized for the 9mm. I've always said the Centurion is what the M-9 should have been. Look at it's main competitor at the time the Sig 226 .

IMO All the upgrades made to the 92 over the past 30 plus years have breathed new life into a classic pistol......... not much different than the Browning High Power of 1935 vs todays guns with upgrades; trigger (remove mag disconnect) sights and safety, cuton grips as well as Mec-Gar 15rd magazines keeping that old classic "cocked and locked" gun a favorite of many !!!!!!

Glock 26. Concealable. Reliable .

Can be carried in states which require 10 round magazines or less. Accepts all the higher capacity double stack Glock magazines up to 33 rounds.

For me, it's the gun I keep if I have to rid myself of all others. (Which is why I own two of them.)
