This may have been asked before if so I apologize for asking again. If you could only have one S&W revolver to take to the range and shoot for fun what would it be and why.

My 686 6" is on call with .357 magum loads, but for "fun", as a accurate target pistol, I use .38 special wadcutter loads.

For inexpensive "fun", the very accurate, easy to shoot, model 617 .22 w/6" barrel.

Depends on if i can use any S&W or just my own?

My own, would be the 2 1/2" 19-4 i just love it :D

Any S&W, would be a 4" 25-2 with unlimited suply of fullmoon clips (loaded of course)

My two all time Favorites S&W revolver??

A early model 60 in 38 special and any pre-lock 629! Any barrel length, any dash 629 up until the dreaded lock. But if I had to pick just one? Nope can't do it!!!

Sorry!

My 5-inch M629. I shoot mostly powder puff handloads at normal handgun ranges, but it's fun, from time to time, to take the .44 Mag out to the rifle range and shoot stuff at long distance. For some reason, a .38 Special /.357 Magnum is just not as satisfying in that regard.

My 3.5" .357 Magnum (pre-27). Classic, classy, punches paper with the best of its breed and lethal on two-legged critters if needed. Shoots .38 Special like a .22 (OK, a little more recoil than that ;)), and handles most any .357 Magnum with ease. Pre-dates me and will outlast me; I trust it.

I'm gonna have to go with my old Model 15-3. Why? Easy. First off, it's just plain fun to shoot. Second, it's comfortable to carry. Third, and probably the most important reason of all...I can actually hit stuff with it.:)

I actually read your question and will answer it literally: a K-38/ M-14. That is what it was made for, a target revolver.

If, as others seemed to read into the question, which single S&W revolver for all needs, a Model 66-3 with four-inch bbl. and Pachmayr Presentation grips. I'd fire mainly .38 Special ammo most of the time, but .357 power is an option when really needed.

If a second S&W, a Model 60-7 snub .38 or a M-60-4 with three inch barrel and adj. sights with a full lug barrel. I love both the M-60's so much that I'd hate to be without either, but the M-60-4 is harder to find, so I guess I'd choose it. But I'd skip movies and most meals out until I'd saved enough for a snub one, too. But these are not for target shooting. That is not their proper role. They ARE ideal in other roles.

Why do you want just a target revolver? If you're serious about match use, you need a .38 Special auto or 9mm if rules for your matches allow it. A target-tuned .45 auto is the other gun you'd need to compete seriously in traditional bullseye matches. You did say to "shoot for fun." That implies that you don't intend to be a serious target shooter, in hard competition. So, any of those mentioned above will suffice. But the M-14 is what was designed for target shooting, or the M-1955 .45 Target model. The .45 is big and heavy, so I'd choose the .38 Masterpiece. The .38 ammo is cheaper, too.

I hope you have other handguns for other needs.

R U kidding me if I could have one revolver it wouldn't be a s&w it would be a Ruger Redhawk, no flame cutting.. Lol.

Probably my m57/6" 41 mag.

I like my RedHawks but the s&w n frame feels so much better balanced. Don't dare touch my m58.

For me it would a 4" Model 57 .41 Magnum.

You can load it from mild to hot and all points in between.

Just don't ask me to choose between the blue no-dash and the nickel dash 1!!!:D
