One wild and crazy race track car ride. Six minutes worth. Turn up the volume.

I ran Gymkhana back in the 1970's with one of my Jensen Healey's. No 650HP, and no paddle shifters, but still a LOT of fun.

Seen it before, loved seeing it again. Besides music my Bose Companion 3 System makes the sound on these videos truly amazing. Fortunately my wife (who unbelievably doesn't appreciate videos like this) had just left for the grocery store when I found this so I could crank it up. I really like the popping of the rev limiter.

I believe Bridgestone actually gives him all the tires he needs.

Parts 1 and 2 are crazy as well. The first one has that raw unedited kind of feel to it. The car also wasn't a purpose built rally car or anything either. Mostly just loads of HP and some suspension work.

Here is Part 4.

Glad I don't have to buy his tires. Lot of noise and smoke. Reminds me of my teen-age days at the drag strip.

A friend and i joined the Sports Car Club of America Northeast Iowa Region in the mid '80s. We drove in autocrosses for about six or seven years, mostly in big parking lots, but our hometown had one for several years that was run on the city streets. It would cross the river, go over to the other bridge, then cross back, all with a few thousand people watching. You have no idea how exciting it is to crest a bridge with the tach at 6,000 RPM, foot on the floor, looking directly at a Cop pointing a radar gun at you.:D We were incredibly broke then and drove Rotary Mazdas from the '70s. (No, not RX 7s, they were for the rich guys. Mine was a Cosmo, his an RX2). We would go to the local Goodyear store and they would give us worn out Eagle GTs for free. We could get several races out of them. I learned more about driving in those autocrosses than anywhere else. In fact, I credit it with saving my life a few years later. If I had done what 99% of drivers in that situation would have done, I would be totally dead today. I applied what I learned autocrossing, controlled the car, and survived.
Those were the days.
Jim
