Online Passport Renewal

The State Department has been dragged (kicking and screaming) into the online era. If you are 25+, aren't changing your name, you are in the US or have an APO or FPO address, and have a 10-year tourist passport issued between 2009 and 2015, you can renew online. It will still take 8 weeks to get your new passport, but you don't have to mail a single thing anywhere. There are commercial outfits that will try to sell you assistance on this, but you can do exactly the same thing yourself without extra fees.

Will wonders never cease.

I briefly looked at the site. it looks to be easy enough

I just renewed. Since ya gotta mail in the old one, I dropped off everything at the PO and had the new and old one back pronto. Good

No need to mail in the old one now - they invalidate it once they issue a new one.

Just did both my wife and my renewals on-line.
Digital photos from Staples and both had our new passports in less than two weeks.
No need to mail in anything.
