Open carry opinions

My open carry combo.

AR15 with a sling, and I just shove the .45 in small of back no holster. This way there's no doubt I'm open carrying if someone is behind me or coming toward me.

What's yours?

I don't know .......

.... if the bear (black) sees the gun openly carried; the mere sight of the gun will dissuade he/she (or it??) from attacking........

the bear will not know if it's a .380 or a "ultra-compact S&W .500 "marketed" for bear protection.........

so the bear will move through the woods ( to do what bears do) and seek out a "sheepeople" for a lunch date.


As an aside .... "Have you ever been stabbed or slashed"...... by a bear........

black,brown or one of those big white ones doesn't matter ?

When I'm out in public, concealed all the time.

And don't forget the BBQs. You just have to open carry your finest there.
How else can you show off your fancy leather and iron?
 
I kind of compromise in the winter months. Besides football and hunting its the only saving grace for cold weather.
I'll switch to OWB and carry a larger frame revolver or higher capacity semi-auto which makes for more comfort, easier to shoot, more powerful and more accurate.
It's still concealed under a jacket though. I don't open carry except like others, in the boonies.

I's don't know 'bout alls that thar.....;)

I almost got slash'd and er bit by a bear once er twice.

Was open carryin a .338 at the time and it did not seem to diswade or
detour him all that much....till I shot 'im a couple of times. :D

I wouldn't recommend prowlin around in bear country with a concealable size firearm atall.

But, that's jest me talkin here.

Myself? I've Open Carried for over 3 years now, a S&W 329PD .44 Mag N frame. In that time, I've had only one negative input which was quickly dispensed with.

I used to live in AL and now live in TN. During the spring and summer, there's no way I'm going to try to conceal with the heat and humidity. And why should I? The more people that OC, the more that people will see that guns are no big deal and are therefore far less likely to want to vote to control or ban them.

I don't care for open carry Myself I do not want to advertise that I have a gun,The only time I ever open carry is in the woods during hunting season & it comes off My belt when I leave the woods.

BTW I conceal carry most of the time. The only time I open carry is hiking or backpacking.

I fall in your way of doing things. When in the woods or at home, I'll open carry all day (It gives me a chance to carry around my Judge that otherwise collects dust). When I'm in public places, it's concealed.

Open carrier in Wal Mart minding his own business, some unknown person runs across the (front part of the) store to tell the open carrier what wonderful things he is doing for "the cause".

After telling the Open carrier what a great guy he (the open carrier) is the unknown person says " I carry too, here's my piece" and promptly pulls some pocket pistol out of his pocket.:eek:
 
In PA it's ok to open carry according to the law. In the more rural, mountain sections of the state I think that it would be ok/more accepted. IMHO if someone openly carried in Philadelphia or nearby they would be inviting questions from local LEO or targeted by non-licensed, armed thugs. I wouldn't want to be a police officer in the city of Phila. looking at a couple hundred people carrying walking down the street. There are too many homicides and bad guys who would abuse the privilege and brandish to intimidate. Sad to say but around some cities there are as many armed bad guys as armed good guys.

New to the forum so don't take anything I say to heart.. just my $.02 :-)
 
I'm surprised this thread is still open so I'll just quickly say. I have no problem with someone open carrying. Myself, I perfer that the only one that know I'm carrying is me.

I can do both with a CWL in GA. Very few people here open carry.

If you are going to open carry, please dont use one of those horizontal shoulder rigs.

Assuming 100 gr. bullets, a minimum of 18 and a maximum of 40 rounds of .380, assuming 100% hits. (Ha Ha!)

Want to know why? On another forum made of all hunters who go into bear country and wanted adequate b/u … one guy was pretty comfortable using a big (.44 Mag or .454 Casull?) 6 shooter with 300 gr. bullets (1800 grains total). I said that I could "weigh down the bear" more with 15 shots with 200 gr. hard cast lead bullets (3000 grains total) from my .40 S&W M&P. Another guy jumped the analogy to say if that was true, then you'd be better off with a .22 with 100 rd. mag with 40 grain bullets (4000 grains total).

So you can take it as a scientific fact, since it was fully debated on a forum, that it takes 1800 to 4000 grains of copper and lead to dispense a bear. Hence the 18 to 40 rds. of .380 needed! (By the way, if you try this, have your buddy shoot video, from a distance, and share it with us!)

I still..... even now after years of CC, don't understand the angst against open carry. Many states allow it and the research I have done does not point to the OC person as a target by the "bad guys". I support their right to carry as they see fit and given the right conditions would do so myself. Like many respondents here, I open carry in the field and CC in urban/city environs. The point is still the same.... "...shall not be infringed..." .

No it is not.

I personally find it too heavy and the recoil is severe. I open carry an NAA mini in .22 Short. I find that I get one shot stops all day long and with the superior ammunition technology we have to day, it will carry me through my defensive needs. With the low recoil, I am back in the fight quicker from shot to shot.
 
As i've only been in the firearm world really for a couple years, I haven't noticed many at all OC'ing but i still find myself looking right at what one is carrying even at the ranges i've been to (workers, etc) as it still seems odd to me. Not uncomfortable, just odd (not the right word but hard to describe the feeling).
I understand the right to do so if the state allows, and I believe most that would OC would be on the right side of the law (a hope anyway lol). But i do have to say, I cant agree with those who want to push the envelope or their own agendas and carry much more then a handgun out in public.
Really not wanting to step on any toes here, just saying when i was in the "non-gun owner" group if i would have seen that I would have been quite concerned. Lack of public awareness? Sure. Just feel that's not the way to convert more to the "pro gun" side of the discussion.

The bad guys aren't the problem. It's the sheeple , over bearing law enforcement types, and those in government that think only the government should have firearms.

I don't personally OC, but I have no problem if you want to do it. It's not my place to tell someone else what to do.
 
How open is open, are we talking about strapping on a western style holster with two .45 six shooters or perhaps a small discreet palm sized .380 probably smaller than most cell phones today.
How about if you are wearing a jacket with your owb holster, is that still open carry? I'm in NJ so forgive the silly questions, we can't even carry a decent sized pocket knife.
