Legal her in PA , but , since our communities run from one family hillbilly backwoods town to major cities with a million liberal welfare recipients , who can't enact their own laws. The state laws have 'no pre-emption'. Localities can't enact their own gun laws.
You MAY , however , get hassled to varying degrees by local law enforcement who may or may not know the law. And many non-gun citizens will call the law.
There's a bunch of , as I call 'em 'open carry clowns' , they like to set up meetings in public resturants and such , all wearing one or more guns openly , just to kick up a fuss and get noticed , start trouble , etc.
I've been licenced to carry concealed and have been so for over 25 years. I see no cause to call further attention to myself.

How many times have you been in the same place as the "clowns"?
Where do you propose they practice their right to carry openly, if not in public?
What type of trouble do they normally start ? I am sure you have been there when they started it, right? If not, how do you know these things?

Here in Kalifornia, OC is actually legal, but when done it usually stirs up a commotion and the cops are called.
I was a cop for thirty years, and never had a problem if someone wanted to OC, but it seemed to attract the nuts.
On my many trips to the free state of Arizona, it is not uncommon to see folks carry in the open and nobody pays any attention to them.
Here lately, we have had several incidents with uniformed officers attacked and their guns stolen. I have always carried concealed (unless in uniform). In plain clothes I feel uncomfortable if my gun is exposed in public.

Personally, I like OC, and think it should be encouraged. I don't think I would do so if I was going to be in a crowded area, but in my normal life it wouldn't matter. While work is in a VERY bad area, we stopped having problems at our place once we started OC'ing. Criminals do watch a place, before they rob it/burglarize it, etc. At least the ones messing w. us were.

There's a diff between doing it because ya can , and doing it to stir up a hornet's nest. One big female insisted on open carrying at a little kids soccer game , and making a state case about it. They do it mostly to get arrested , then beg for legal funds and start a lawsuit.
I've always believed that with rights come responsibilities , like not acting like a ******* , just because you can.

Actually a coward made a state case of it, and talked an elderly, dimwitted county sheriff into going along. What do you want to bet that the instigator won't be helping Grandpa Simpson with his legal fees?
Nobody has to like the law. They just have to obey it. If the peasants don't, we get arrested. If the police and sheriffs don't, they get sued. If they don't want to get sued, they should try obeying the law like everybody else.

Showing up at a public diner wearing 2 Desert Eagle .44 mags shows just how foolish they are. A .44 mag autoloader is hardly a responsible self defense weapon. I mean aside from the over-penetration , does anyone really need that kind of weaponry for self defense?

Why carry a firearm for self-defense at all? It says "To Serve & Protect" on the doors of the police cars. That means they HAVE to protect you, right? You don't need ANY guns of ANY kind.

Overpenetration can be controlled by using the right bullet for the job. The .44 magnum isn't the automatic overpenetrator that many think it is. While I have no intention of carrying a Desert Eagle, I do carry a 5" 629 and use full power magnum ammunition. It is often said that if you're going to get in a gunfight be armed with a long gun if at all possible. I can't speak for others, but if I can't have a long gun, then I want a handgun that behaves as much like one as possible, so long as I can control it.

Why? or for what reason would anyone want to carry a weapon to a kids sporting event?
Just because it is legal doesn't make it right.
In reality no one should carry a gun anywhere.
Just because it is carried concealed doesn't make a gun any less dangerous.
And if I seen the outline of a gun under someones coat or shirt I would be even more suspicious of the person because they are trying to hide a weapon.
Weapons at sporting events, or any event with crowds should be banned for anyone except law enforcement.
And alcohol should also be banned as well as all that sugar packed junk food they sell at the games.
You can never tell when some freak hopped up on a sugar high from his bag of M&Ms might just go off and yell "boo" at a bad call on the field!
And the sound of a sugar junkie yelling at the official on the field would surly cause a panic from the other spectators!
We are all responsible for not ever upsetting anyone even if it means giving up our rights.
And like stated above, only a ******* would think otherwise.
BTW-You can count me in with the jackasses because I'm not about to forsake any right to spare anyones feelings.

Excellent discussion. As you can see I'm new to the Forum and I've learned quite a bit in the few days I browsed some of these threads.
As far as OC vs. CC goes, I think most, not all, who OC do it just to draw attention to the fact that they can and may actually lose any advantage they may have had during an altercation. As in many things that are legal, just because you can doesn't mean you should.
OC is perfectly legal in MI, though I've never actually seen it except during hunting season which is the only time I have ever openly carried. I've been a CC permit hold since MI enacted the "Shall Issue" law about 8 years ago and that is the method I prefer.

Here, I will just throw this one out again for your response.
I OC, and I don't do it to draw attention to the fact I can, but more to the point that anyone who can legally carry a gun can. I use it as an opportunity to educate those who ask. More often than not, it is a non-event. I have had people notice my moon clips but not my gun, go figure.
If you don't like my method of carry, I actually don't care. I will continue to OC. If a business doesn't want me to OC in their place of business, not a problem, I won't. I also won't spend any money there.
My state law protects my RKBA and allows me to OC, I will do it.

Open carry is one of those divisive issues that is better left alone. Some like it. Some don't. One side is not going to convince the other and vice versa.
The beauty of living in a (somewhat) free country is that we can all have different opinions and behave accordingly without fear of retribution.

I don't open carry... that's it, I just don't open carry. I don't feel the need to denigrate those who do. I find it common for people who don't open carry to insult and belittle those who do.

OC can be a devisive issue, but there are always new people coming to this site and those who are undecided, so I think it's important that the debate takes place so long as we're civil about it.

If you're talking about PAFOA, I haven't seen that. There may be one or two people like that, but it sure isn't the "tone". Rather, what I've seen is one or two people personally attack the woman whose LTCF was wrongfully revoked by that sheriff. I've seen the same one or two people harass her on OCDO. One of them is a full blown misogynist.

If it is legal to open carry, then it is legal to open carry. Beyond that, each person needs to make up their own mind.
I OCed today at an OC breakfast with one of our local MN forums. It is always fun to see what people are carrying and in what. I OC carried to my car and on home. When I went out later in the day it was concealed.
Another major benefit is I don't have to worry about my permit being pulled because my carry garment came up over my gun by accident. That is very good feature of our law and I like it.

That's what I meant earlier, when I said the legislature in my state (Wa.) thought O/C AND C/C important enough to have both be stipulated. Quite likely for exactly the reasons Srig's described.
