Howdy, I have a 4006 and was looking to get one more or a 4046. I like all steel frames and its getting hard to find a Sig 226 all steel without the big bevertail.

Any problems with the 4046 I should know of? Hows the DAO trigger? I'm assuming I can use same mags as my 4006. Reliability any different? Going price?

Any reason why or why not?

Thanks a bunch

I own a 4043 the aluminum frame version and it's the single most accurate pistol I own. I dropped in a 16lb hammer spring in mine and the pull measured out at just under 9 lbs but is really smooth and feels lighter. Perfect IMO for a pistol that i will carry often with out a safety.
Yes your 4006 mags will fit.
Price depends on condition for a good shooter with a few bumps $300-350 is a fair price more for a really pristine example with 2 mags and the box up to a max of say $450 or so unless it is unfired.
I own a 910, 1066, the 4043 and a few Browning High Powers and much to my amazement the DAO 4043 is consistently the most accurate shooter of the bunch on the range. Never had a one single malfunction of any kind with the 4043 EVER.

4006 vs 4046

Have you tried a DAO auto?
-Does not having the SA trigger matter?
-Does not having a decocker/safety matter?

The trigger pull is long & smooth. If you lighten the mainspring just make sure you test it thoroughly, especially if for SD, as you don't want to go too light & lose reliability.

When you're target shooting after you squeeze off a round with a TDA you slowly release the trigger to the first click, then fire again. On the DAO, you release until the second click, then fire again. I shoot more TDA than DAO & at the range it takes me a bit to remember to let the trigger out more before the next shot. That's my pet peeve.

I like that with the TDA if the slide decocker/safety is down you can confidently & safely load/reload the gun (say, inside the house) because the hammer is blocked. No doubts.

Guess it boils down to what you like & are used to.

Thanks, I'm not afraid of a DAO. I found both a 4006 and 4046 Like new with box, and it was a toss up for me. I like to carry front waist band and the DAO might be a little easier on the skin.

As the song goes "too much of a good thing, is a good thing"

4006 it is

4006 it is...

You made a good choice picking the 4006. I carry one. Yea it is just a little heavy so I made me a shoulder holster.

I have a 4006 that I carried as a Cop. I have a 4043 and 2 4046s all are wonderful shooting guns. I like the fact that the mags will work on them all. great find on the 4006 but if you can try to get the 4046 also.

Any reason why or why not?
No reason not to go for it if you are one who likes the extra weight and strength of the stainless frame as I do. If you like the one (4006), you will probably like the other (4046). :) But as someone said, make sure you are comfortable with the DAO trigger if you are mainly a DA/SA kind of guy. If possible, try out a friend's DAO 3rd Gen before jumping.

The DAO trigger on the 3rd Gens I've tried have all been very nice. I'm actually looking for a fairly priced 5946 as a companion to my 5906.

I carried a 4046 as a duty gun for about 10 years.
They are great guns if you don't mind the weight.
Their built like a tank, don't believe a guy could wear it out.
