Optic recommendation for Model 41 .22LR

New to Bullseye Shooting .... just bought a S&W Model 41 .22LR and would like a recommendation for a Red Dot system for it ... Holgraph or Tube style ... I don't have much experience with either type, other than an EoTech on my S&W AR15.

I've been looking for a red dot for my son's 2206, and several people have recommended UltraDot scopes. You can get information on them, and purchase at Ultra Dot West Home What I liked about them is the Lifetime warranty, and they are pretty light weight--obviously not a huge problem if you are bench shooting. The other scope manufacturer I have been looking at is Millett with their SP1 and SP2 red dots. They have a variable red dot too that is similiar to UltraDot Matchdot. The Millett's seemed to be slight lighter, but their warranty I believe is only 5 years. Hope this helps you out some.

I have the Millets and really like them. I tried the holos' but I'm right handed/left eye dominant and my left eye could see the screen and throw me off. With the tube style only my right eye sees it.

For bullseye pistol shooting I prefer the tube type red dot sights. I have used the big dot 30mm Tasco (12 minute dot) and the 30mm Ultr Dot with variable dot sizes. I prefer to almost cover the black of the target with the red dot wityh less than one ring of the black showing. Thus if the dot is in the black when I let off the trigger the worst I can do is a 9.

TruGlo makes several large tube 2x red dots. I have the basic red dot only model. The 2x magnifier will screw off, and it becomes a regular 1x red dot. Worth looking into. looks to be decent quality.

Sorry that I do not have a pic, but I use an UltraDot L/T on my 41. The size and scale are a good match and the sight works very well both in and out of the sun.
It's easy to set up and zero and replacing the battery is a breeze since it's in a 'drawer' instead of removing the scope to replace.
I would recommend to anyone.
There is also a tube dot by Gilmore/Leupold (I don't think these are still made.) on a 686 that I have. It too is a good sight, although it's downfall is that the sight is very light in strong sun. I really like that sight to though and the scale fits the larger frame revolver.

Mounting Platform

What mounting equipment (rail) are you using to install the UltraDot system on top of your 41's ?

I have used both a Tasco PDP2 red dot and Millet red dot for several years, and the Millet is bright, and very clear. For size and weight, I just acquired a Burris Fast Fire II red dot. I have just mounted it on my High Standard and it appears to be excellent. It is advertised to withstand the recoil of the 500 mag. The dot brightness is automatically controlled by a sensor in the sight, and so far indoors is adequately bright. I see them mounted on several AR's as a fast acquisition close distance sight in conjunction with a scope. If you have "mature" eyesight, a red dot can be a big help. I use the picatiny (weaver) rail mount. It is very secure.

For tube type sight my favorite is the Aimpoint H-1 currently I have it mounted on a 10/22, it worked great on the M41, The best you can do I think is about $500, so I do not have a closet full.
Currently I have a Docter and an Ultradot L/T on the M41s.
The Docter is 3.5 moa, a sharper and clearer dot, great sight, very good at setting its brightness level.
The Ultradot (4 moa) is a fine sight but suffers by comparison with the Docter.
