I have a Primary Arms MicroDot on mine - $118 with optional riser. It's a non-magnified red dot, and weighs just 7 ounces (with the riser).

i just bought the wallmart tasco red dot $35, im new with my 15-22 but couldn't of been more pleased with it's accuracy im going to shoot 50yrds today i sighted it in at 25 and was within a nat's rear.

Keep in mind ur gonna need magnification for 100 Yards

I can hit soda cans at 100 with my red dot. But shooting as 100 is alot nicer with my 3-9 power scope from supported positions. Depends on the kind of shooting you wanna do.

true, i just assumed most people shoot for groups. but you can generally assume you won't be able to reproduce one shot within a bullethole's distance of the previous without the magnification.

I have the same red dot on mine. its plenty bright and accurate. I shoot 100 yards with it just fine. However I'm going to be changing it up soon.

IF you want tight shot groups at 50 or more yards you will be best to use a scope

red dot sights tend to block out too much of the center of your targets at that range

my red dot at 50 yards blocked out the whole 3 inch center of the target and at greater ranges you cannot get a dead center shot as you cannot even see the center because of the red dot

I started with a red dot but now I only have a variable scope on my rifle because I like accuracy and tight shot groups and I shoot from 50 to 75 yards

red dots are good for real close shots or really large targets like for military use

with my 2-7x32 variable scope I can keep both eyes open up to the 5th power so moving targets still get a nice tight shot group

This is my set up, I like my rifle light and easy.

It's an NcStar 3-9x42 scope with rubber "armor" and illuminated recticle. The cross hairs can be lit up red or green but I dont use that function, I don't even have the battery in it. So far it holds zero great and I've been able to make sub 3" groups at 100 yards with it using non-match grade ammo. I think you can find it for around the $60 range.

thanks

I have the 2-7x32 Mark III with the lighted reticles but it obviously looks much different than the rubber coated 3-9x42

I think I may look into that scope as I would like a 42 field of view over the 32

also would prefer the rubber coating

I hope they offer it in the quick release so I can easily transfer my red dot when I want to use it

thanks for the info

There's also a rubber one that has a red laser and blue illum. Reticle instead of red green AND it has Lens covers. Around 125 on amazon

The thing with Red Dots is to rememeber the effect the MOA has on the accuracy.

1 MOA dot covers 1" at 100 yards.
2 MOA dot covers 2" at 100 yards.
3 MOA dot covers 3" inches at 100-yards.
4 MOA dot covers 4" inches at 100-tards.
5 MOA dot covers 5" inches at 100-yards...etc...

So, a 3 MOA accuracy is +/- 1.5" at 100 yards. I can say that with my cheap red dot (advertised as 3.5-4 MOA) I can hold about 1" at 25 yards. I would expect it be around 4" circle at 100 yards based upon the rule of thumb above.
