Ordered a NIB 327 TRR8, what can I expect?

Mailed off the $$$ today for a NIB 327 TRR8.
$1200.00 shipped, best price I could find.
Not all that easy to come by right now.
Intended use will be a Range / Home gun.
Have not had the pleasure of trying one out.
What can I expect? My 1991 8 3/8" 629 Classic has been my benchmark for triggers (since 1991). Have put thousands of rounds through it.
Should this be a big step up from the old 629?

Thanks! Really looking forward to this one!

A big hug...it'll be all right...try to get some sleep.

1st man hug in the 12 yrs. I have been here.

Hi everyone. I'm new here. Just got a new R8. Fantastic gun, but . . . misfires about 1 out of 8 times without moon clips. With the clips, it's flawless. Tried many varieties of ammo, all with the same result. The clips seem pretty flimsy, compared to those which came with my Smith Governor. Anyway, I've contacted S/W about the R8. The gun has surprisingly little recoil . . . and the trigger is really sweet.

Welcome to the forum.
As you can read above, you aren't the only one with the misfire issue.
Easy fix is to install a Cylinder & Slide extended firing pin.
Agree on the clips, that's the way they have to be due to the case's construction. Be very careful with them. A Deluxe Moonclip Tool or similar will save a lot of wear and tear on them:

Did you try it both single and double action w/o the moon clips? The problem shows up more often in double action.

Taroman, I've been in contact with SW today (quick response!) and they're going to have a look at it with shipping being at their expense. With a gun this $$, I'm gonna have THEM tinker with it. It's under warranty as I bought it NEW a month ago.

Florida J Frame, it occurs in DA as well as SA.

Thanks for your responses.

Good luck with that.
Sent mine in as described above.
They sent it back un-repaired.
Rather than going through the process again, with the possibility of FEDEX losing it, I just fixed it myself, what I should have done in the first place.

Mine has been perfect after they installed the longer firing pin.
Zero light strikes without moon clips, in both double and single action.
IMO this is currently the best revolver they make. Too bad so many are being sent back for something that should be taken care of prior to shipping.
And I am certain this is a non issue using the clips. But why have a gun that requires them to function? Makes no sense...........
I really like shooting this one / one handed. Such nice balance. It out shines the other pistols I take to the range. Tighter groups etc.
