O'Reilly and Registration

He stated that tonight that all crimes committed with a gun should be a federal offence with a 5 year min.

Only thing is the 10th amendment would have to be removed.

But some what to know why we have some of the rights anyway.
They just get in the way of the Federal government doing whatever it wants.. :(

Fascist may be a little strong, but definitely a Progressive and most certainly a sexist. It is clear when he has Megan or any other of the female Fox analysts on and debates them. Well, he tries to debate them, Megan is way smarter than him and that becomes really clear, really fast.

I don't think it is too strong at all. I think it is exactly right. O'Reilly thinks the heavy hand of government is the solution to society's perceived problems. Case in point: gun registration.

I don't understand how registering guns would lower crime. There are cities that have registration but crimes are still committed with registered guns. Gangbangers and drug dealers won't register their guns.

Lets look at making all guns illegal, what would happen? We collect all of them and destroy them. Now what?
Lets look at cocaine for the answer. It is against the law to have cocaine. Can people get it, is it easy to get? Can I get it in prison?
Does it come into our country in large quantities?

So if we had no guns here I could go to the local drug organization and order some and they would bring them in with the next shipment of drugs. While we are at it the "Importer" could also bring in some grenades and AK select fire rifles at the same time. Where there is a demand that demand will be met by people that do not follow the law.

Some day I will start a thread titled Why the fight for the 2nd Amendment is already lost. It is not a question of if guns will be outlawed but when.

You could put the period in that sentence right after the word "anything".

I've written this before, Bill O'Reilly is an actor and a showman. The purpose of his show is to make money; that is all.

Russ

What most people truly don't see is that the purpose of ALL of these mainstream media outlets is to MAKE MONEY. I get it, we want to have honest reporting, done for the right reasons, covering the topics that matter most to our lives. But, it simply does not work, that way.

Honestly, I know what I'm talking about here, these news outlets are companies/corporations whose driving mission is to sell ads and make money. They truly do not care about the constitution, societal problems, national security, your health, etc., their fiduciary responsibility is to 'increase shareholder value.' They cover and exploit these subject areas when those subject areas can meet their objective of driving revenues/ratings. Their constant focus is driving ratings to affect ad rates.

There is much, much more money to be made exploiting societal ills than doing true journalistic news. If the news outlets really wanted to cover what matters/affects people the most, they would dive into the pervasive government/corporate corruption that exists at all levels, and in both parties of government. They will not do this to any meaningful extent, because it's not entertaining enough, and these news outlets are actually part of the whole corporate system; never going to happen! This is true at a level that is almost unimaginable in its impact on our society and lives. I will not get into this important point, but it is scary when you look under the covers... The 'news' as we knew it is dead, replaced with ratings-driven 'stories' that are selected for their ability to capture people's interest, not their value on improving our country, or our quality of life.

These shows they put on FOX, CNN, MSNBC, etc. are entertainment shows that are centered around news-related stories. Some commentators may be more in line with your personal ideologies than others, but that does not make it journalistic news. Sure, they have some people on, here and there, that bring up some good items, uncover some things, but it's flash and go, done. The commentators that you see on-air, are there based solely on their ability to deliver ratings, nothing more, nothing less. Bill O'Reilly gets ratings, when he doesn't deliver that anymore, he'll be gone.

The very fact that we have a debate going on that is centered around Bill O'Reilly's personal views/opinions on gun registration/control is proof positive that his show is NOT news, it's entertainment. A credible news person would never, repeat, never, utter their views and/or opinion on a news-related item that they were covering.

That's my Saturday morning missive, I think I'll go out and cut the grass now. ;)

Registration will not lead directly to confiscation. The first step after registration will be taxation. Pay a fee to register each firearm, then pay a tax each year on every firearm. The pretext will be to provide compensation for victims of "gun violence", but the actual use of funds will be to finance an ever-increasing bureaucracy to administer the firearms registry and produce anti-gun propaganda.

When registration and taxation are not successful in totally eliminating crime the bureaucracy will be expanded again and again, and the fees for registration and the taxes will be increased again and again. A point will be reached at which the majority will turn in their guns for destruction in order to avoid the taxes and fees (as well as escaping public criticism as an evil gun owner).

Confiscation will come along when firearms owners are a very small minority. The enabling legislation will point out that crime continues to be a growing problem, and that the tiny minority (gun owners) are somehow responsible, so confiscation becomes a legitimate public service. And the costs of confiscation will be assessed against those gun owners, this being a public service and all.

Anyone who willingly registers a firearm will spend the rest of his life with a big red circle around his name on a list in Washington, DC, and probably scheduled for a few years at a re-education camp to get his thinking straightened out (new categories of mental illness will be created). It is easy to envision programs like the sex offender registries created specifically for gun owners, with names and addresses published to enhance public awareness and community safety (fees required, of course).

He convinced me his knowledge regarding firearms and the law was virtually non-existent when he made the bizarre claims that "Anyone could walk into a gun show and come out with a machine gun or a bazooka" after the Connecticut school shootings a few years ago. I emailed him multiple times requested he correct this "misinformation" , and I expect thousands of others did so as well, but he never retracted that comment. I suspect there are countless thousands of viewers who are still under the impression that anyone can go buy a full auto weapon at a gun show and proceed to walk out with it.
So now he's apparently advocating "universal background checks and registration" which we and the NRA have fought so vigorously against since they're usually that LAST step before confiscation as this is exactly what happened in other countries.
It is my hope that someone perhaps, Sean Hannity, uses his program to refute the B.S. O'Reilly keeps spouting.

O'Reilly is a liar and the truth is not in him.
He isn't a news person, he is an entertainer.
A poor one at that.

Do you remember the big stink some years
back about the 'all white prom' at the school
in Georgia? That was the school where I taught
for 24 years. Ninety-nine point five percent
of what he reported was wrong. About the only
thing he got correct was the county and state.
It was a hack job from the word go. Facts
were the first casualties.

O'Really is a new york blow-hard. (caps omitted purposely). He is just another talking head and when guests don't agree with him, he turns into a rude mouthy threatening jerk. I can't watch all these talking heads on Fox. I got a lot of other things in life to do than to fester in front of the TV watching show after show of the same BS, with a different host. I can glean all the info I want on a subject in 10 minutes in the morning by reading, not watching all their idiot videos that are regurgitated on the Fox News website.

I don't know about you folks, but when I retired, I made a promise that I wouldn't sit in front of the TV or the computer all damn day. I got some living to do.....

The DVR is your friend. I record several hours of Fox News every day. Thanks to fast forward, it takes me about 15 minutes to watch what is interesting and useful.

Works great for Braves baseball games, too. <15 minutes to see the interesting stuff.

The guy O'Reilly on on there to discuss this almost got a word in edgewise. Almost. I did hear him say that the NRA and pro Constitution people (us) would not go for "Federal anything". If he got to finish his sentence he might have gotten in the inevitable act of confiscation.

What distresses me is the apparently wide-spread confusion of people like Bill-O with actual news. News commentary is just that: commentary. Who cares what he thinks?

I am disappointed to hear that BO is anti 2A. I respected him until now. IMO, anyone for gun control is just plain ignorant.

Bill O is just another ignorant know it all talking head, he has been anti-gun for years.

Ahhh , the comparison of guns and cars!

I would love it if guns were treated like cars, I could walk in buy as many of the biggest baddest most powerful guns without any BG check, throw them in my truck and take them to any private property and use them without the need of registration or licensing. Only if I were to use them on public roads would I need any imperial entanglements.
