I have an original hi-polished Model 60 (SN 410xxx) that I am thinking of selling. There are no scratches and only a very faint turn line. Beautiful gun but I am thinning the herd. No box or docs. What are these bringing now?

A recent sale online was in the $700 range if I recall correctly. Not many show up for sale so I can't say if that is a low, high or average price.

I've heard of these early M60s with the high polish but I don't recall if there is a way to tell they came that way. Is there a known serial number range for these? Does the box note it or would a factory letter comfirm it?
Trying to learn something.

Sorry my camera is not working right now or I would post a picture. The first all stainless S&W guns were called Model 60's. They were introduced at the Police Chiefs convention in 1965. There were 39 of them made in the SN range 401xxx. Then there were, I believe, about 400 made in the 410xxx SN range. These first two runs were the only hi-polished ones. The next run was in the high 400,000 SN range but were not hi-polished due to the high labor costs. At first glance, they look like a nickle Model 36, however they are actually very scarce and of historical significance for S&W.

If they have the original stocks with the SS SW logo on the stocks and SS screw...that is how they were made in 1965-1967 (all SS)
and the original box with the SS logo (Pittsburgh steeler look alike) Then both the 1965 and 1966 examples will bring north of $850 easily. I thought I had one that I posted at $850,.. and had 2 collectors want to buy them immediately upon posting..until they found out the grips were not numbered. Their quick responses within an hour) makes me think you could go to $900 or maybe a $1K. If you have all the original stuff..

Edit: I just reread OPs post..no box or docs...That changes to ?? Maybe $700

Mike, I was in a lgs this afternoon here in Philly. They had two model 60s. Used ND at $499 and brand new .38cal at $799. Of course that was the asking price. So drop at least $50 off each, more if you want to bargain with the camel trader. Business is slow now, people are on vacation so there is not much of a demand. Half the town is heading for the Jersey Shore points.

I did not know that they brought back the .38 cal with IL. But there it was. Personally I really like that smaller J frame rather than the slightly larger magnum frame with its' heavier barrel. JMHO

S&W lists the MSRP for the 2.5" bbl at $729 and the 3" at $799. A shop near me has a 3" listed at $700 on sale for $650. But that's the new ones. I know that doesn't do the OP much good for an original classic.
