Out of work again!!!!!

Sorry to hear your plight. I've been turned out twice in the last 25 years. It can be defeating to your self esteem and professionalism. I empathize, it's tougher the older ya get.

Keep your chin up but know to duck so it's not a target.
Best wishes to find someone who appreciates you!

Damn, I'm sorry to hear this happened to you.

Our lying politicians tell us 'the recession is over...but unemployment remains high'.

It's an election year, after all.

I hope you find another job quickly!

Curtis,

I am sorry to hear of this recent news and if you ever just want to talk, PM me. If you would permit me to give some advice, keep moving. Go for a walk. Ride your bike. Just get out, get some fresh air and clear your thoughts. Apply for jobs in the area; maybe work a few jobs for awhile if you need to; turn looking for a job into a full time job.

Very sorry to hear this has happened. I hope things turn around for you fast.
I remember talking to you on the phone last year about sponsoring me in the SWCA. I tried to time the call so I wouldn't interfere with your dinner and you were still on your way home from work.
All the best to you and your family, Gary.

Sorry to hear this. I really hope that you could findan other job soon.
It happend me also twice and it is not a nice feeling.
I wish you strenght. Do not fall in a dip. That do not work.

I've been there too and its taken years to recover. I'm still not debt free.

I wish you the best, Try to keep positive.

Curtis. That truly sucks.

If there is anything I can do, please call. If you don't still have my number, PM me.

Take a deep breath and a long ride on the Harley. You'll find a way.

Out of work again

Curtis work is picking up in the Rogers-Springdale area again, there is a new Cabelas set to open in Rogers later this month, a new hotel in Bentonville being built because of the new museum Chrystal Bridges. I am out of the work force here for 10 years but I think you could find something to do, we would like to have you back in this area again. Jeff

Curtis,
I know how you feel. I had been working for a company for 16 years in 2000. Thought I would retire with them in 15 or so more years. I was laid off. You almost have to look at work, as a job, rather than a career. I hope things work out very well for you.

The company that you were working for really did you wrong. They should have never allowed someone to pick up and move across country if they weren't sure the job would be more permanent. I hope something unexpected caused their decision and that they didn't just use you for last tax season. Good luck in the future.

Sorry to hear of your situation Curtis and I know full well what you are talking about, Hope you find something quickly.

Been there, lost out when my body gave out. Maybe a career
change is indicated. The railroads need crews, plus there's gotta be something available north of you with all that frackin' going on.
I have faith in you, after all, you like S&W's; that's got to
count for Something...

Sorry to hear about that. Did the firm treat you well? I have been laid off three times and forced out one additional time that wasn't really a lay off. (I am a design engineer). I have been NAFTA certified twice for all the good it did me. When GE laid me off I was given a week's pay of salary extension for each year worked and I was given a week's severance also. I hope the firm that laid you off paid your relocation expenses. I hear this is getting more rare though. I had one employer call me in, give me the notice and walk me out (as if i would go postal). One employer (Addecco Technical) told the ESC that they considered I resigned. Held up my unemployment a bit.

I hope you have a great network. IMO, networking is the best way to find a position. You can see hundreds of positions on the WEB (Monster.com, etc.), but so can hundreds of other applicants. Applying to these postings can feel good, but not produce much results. I don't know how old you are, but if you're over '50 I would stay away from postings by employment agencies. Again, IMO the main service these agencies provide is to screen out the older applicants so the hiring company doesn't get crossways of the EEOC.

My sincere hope is you land a position you like quickly.

That's terrible, best of luck to ya.

I'm an airline pilot, and I've been furloughed, a couple of bankruptcies, mergers, stagnation, a bit of everything....

Anyway, every time something whacky destabilizes my job, friends always ask "what will you do if?"

I have a brother in law that works as a certified mechanic at a Honda dealer, and he makes six figures. Wow.

I'm thinking if I need to I'll go get a certified trade. You can't outsource hands on, and there is always a need for GOOD, and HONEST tradesmen.

If you are smart and ambitious you can even parlais a simple tradesman job into your own business. Lord knows we need honest companies out there who give good service and deliver on their promises.

My dad was a bricklayer and general contractor. Because of his hard work, competence, and fairness, he always had more work than he could handle, and even ten years after retirement has calls coming in for more work.

Best of luck to you.
