Out of work again!!!!!

Curtis, I hope you find something better this next time around. Things are not improved down here either but I can't fire myself or lay myself off, I just can't pay myself. I remember you paid for my Factory Letter on Phil's gun while you were out of work the last time around. I really hope you find something more long-term and more suited to your excellent spirit and soon.

For what it's worth I am cautiously optimistic for the future, but time will tell if I'm correct or not. I would like things to get better economically all the way around because as long as the U.S. is suffering, we who depend so much on tourism down here suffer as well. Hang in there my friend.

I know how you feel. I had been working for a company for 16 years in 2000. Thought I would retire with them in 15 or so more years. I was laid off. You almost have to look at work, as a job, rather than a career. I hope things work out very well for you.

The company that you were working for really did you wrong. They should have never allowed someone to pick up and move across country if they weren't sure the job would be more permanent. I hope something unexpected caused their decision and that they didn't just use you for last tax season. Good luck in the future.

I agree, bad form on their part. Unfortunately, you definitely need to look at your work as a temporary job these days, and have your "Plan B" ready to put into action.

I had been with my company 25 years, went with them right out of college, thought I'd retire with them. They had several re-orgs over the last few years, and it finally caught up to me at the end of last year.

It all hit me pretty hard, as I had a very good job, making great money, and getting very good results for them. I was very, very loyal to them, achieved a great deal of success, worked well with people, and at the end it all did not matter; I made too much money! These companies do not care one bit about loyalty, take care of yourself!! These are tough times...

I ended up getting a good job after about 9 months of being out of work. I had to work my *** off to get networked into a new industry, and get this job. I have not posted on this forum for a long time because of all this... I'm not making as much money, but it is a much healthier environment, and its a good position in an interesting field. These things happen for a reason.

Curtis, I wish you the best, and like anything in life, this will be resolved. Try to stay positive, use your network, reach out to companies that interest you and get in front of someone for information on their company. Ask if they have time to meet with you so you can get information, don't bring a resume, just talk to them. You have to keep a positive attitude, and get in front of people. Best of luck to you.

Sorry to hear this also. I feel for anyone who this happens to . Happened to me 3 times . Never have recovered and resided to the fact I never will with whats going on today . I just got back to pay I was making 16 yrs ago. Hopefully can stay and hold on until I retire .Very few employers think of anything else besides themselves . Way of life I guess these days . Been there too many times

Take a look at the state employment web site-most states have efficient application systems.
Also, look at Department of the Army-and other services. Federal Government has positions everyplace.
If you are able to move-look at other states. If you are a veteran, look at systems that will give you credit for service (again state and federal).Jobs that look good-tailor your resume. It takes time-make a minimum of two contacts every day- even to places you really don't want-
Try to make every word in your resume count-take out the fluff stuff.

Keep your trust in the Good Lord and He will provide for you. When one door closes, He opens another.

When I got back from Afghanistan, I waited a few months to start the job search. No luck for about a year. Got on with the post office as a part-time rural carrier.

I wasn't fast enough and was let go. ALL of the other employees thought I had gotten a raw deal. It's really hard to learn to do your job quickly when you only work every other Saturday.

Not long after I was fired, I got my present position, once again toting a badge and a gun (private security on a Federal contract). Making more than the post office and without the wear & tear on my vehicle.

I had a very similar experience with my previous employers. I had to move back home and take a hiatus on my graduating year from college and even lost my internship hours because my employer committed fraud and jumped town. This was a guy that even posed to be religious. Now, I am back at my old job which is not my future. I feel your frustration. Keep up the tenacity. I just got home from my job.

i feel ya man. im a skilled taper/painter and have been bounced around 4 companies in 2 yrs. im thinkin of getting out of my line of work but its what im good at and i like it. maybe dunkin donuts .....i was always taught to work hard and take pride in your work and good things will come....psssh yeah right .... the american dream is dead and gone and its pathetic and makes me sick. my next job im taking a different approach....im gonna do the bare minimum, not care, be lazy etc....ftw

Well, job cuts of good people have been going on since they closed the buggy-whip factory. It has and will always be the economics of capitalism, but the pain of those losing their jobs is a sorry part of our system. In my career I first saw it in the 70's when my hundred year-old family owned company cut 10% of the salaried workforce. They had been know for keeping people on even in the depression, and I watched the tears flow from long-time workers as they got their notice. I decided two things based on that Expeience:
1) I would never accept a promotion to a managerial position, and thus I would never have to execute a directive to fire people.
2) I would never assume the company owed me anything but a paycheck for work I had already done. That way I might be pleasantly surprise but never dissapointed.
I got fired and rehired once in the eighties, but did manage to stck around making myself useful until I retired after 37 years.
Until you've experienced it, the pain of losing your job for no fault of your own ranks just behind death of a loved one and divorce. As with those, you have to pick yourself up and go on because life goes on and it isn't always fair.

Then...the U is holding my transcripts hostage. I need my transcript to get the job rolling (after fingerprints) and to get the transcript, I need the money from the job. So...??? I am selling what I have of value....but it's 1. not going to be enough and 2. takes time to find buyers. Too far gone to qualify for any additional loans...no family is in a position to make a loan.

Who wants to buy a cat? He's not good for anything.

Sounds like the bureaucratic BS I dealt with when working for the State. It is more frustration and work than the actual job!

yeah, the network is how I've had every single fruitful interview, including this one.

One of the continual discussions I have with family and friends in the UK is about the cost of living. They are always whining that I live in a low tax state and country. If you look at the things that are called tax up front, they are quite correct. But when I start listing all the things you need to live that are paid for under the guise of "fee" or "charge", they start to realise that the gap is not as wide as you might think.

It's not even a different agency doing the background check and printing. It's still DPS. What's different is "school contractor" box checked on the form instead of "district employee" with a different fee paid.

I'm still paying off tuition. When it's paid off then they give me my documents.

Like the OP, I'm tired of not having a job. I do the odd work here and there, but it's not the same. Working a lot harder and a lot longer to bring home a lot less.
