Out west

Just got back from a few days of windshield touring my favorite part of the country. Was headed to SW New Mexico but got plans changed due to the Gila fire, prayers needed for the folks out there.

Instead stayed in Northern NM and southern Colorado. Beautiful scenery, friendly folks.I think in another life I must have lived in this country because I love it so.

No good gun shop stories, same shortage of collectible Smiths and same insane prices for everyday stuff out there.Not even any good western collectables in any of the Antique shops and malls.

Did spend one night at the NRA's Whittington Center, had never done that before and it was a great experience. Going to have to got there and stay a few days sometime.Great little museum there with some great guns will try to get a pic or two up when I get a moment.

If you ever doubt the Good Lord for even one moment just drive west of Amarillo and get your faith restored in the majesty of his creations.

Purty country for sure...
Used to run sum of that red rim rock country between Santa Fe and Chama,
on up toward Pagosa Springs and Durango.

Dave, I own a bit of property in Chama, just under 4 acres. Was out for a visit 2 years ago, road the train up into Antionio & back, love the country up there. Gonna build an adobe hacienda there one of these days.

Pretty country, sur nuff. Dad's buried in Deming and I blk bear hunt 'round Magdelana every fall. Trying to get the missus geared up to head up to Taos so I can get in a little fly fishing.

That's the absolute truth. I've spent most of the last four months out that way and wish I could spend a lot more.

I'm glad you enjoyed your trip to God's Country even thought the Gila fire disrupted your original plans. We had a couple of days of smoke and haze here from the fire. Wildfires are terrible things, we had a big one here last year. I worked traffic control and came home after every shift smelling like the guest of honor at a BBQ. We were lucky, it was in a remote area and no homes were lost. We are a bit north of where you traveled, in the Wet Mountain Valley of the Sangre de Cristo Mountains, about 70 miles north of Walsenburg, CO. I grew up in this country and plan to be planted here when I go belly up. I could also be happy just about any where in northern NM, I particularly like the country around
Clayton, NM. The attached picture is the view I see from my kitchen window every day in the spring. It is a snow melt pattern called "The Old Buck". I can also see three 14,000+ peaks from my yard and my nearest neighbor is a little over a half mile away. Great place to live........come visit us again when you get a chance. Keep shootin and check 6

Did you go to Ron Peterson's shop in Albuquerque? He is a great source for collectable firearms.

I did make it to Peterson's shop and it is a very nice place with a huge selection but they too were suffering from a shortage of good old Smiths.
