That is correct. I drive two hours to Dixon for two hundred yards. Aurora has a 600. Then there is Buffalo Rock with 100.
Buffalo Rock is public.
"Find Ranges" is a good free app for that.

X2 on Buffalo Rock. Don't know if the " pit" has reopened, but 100yd, pistol and skeet were available last time I went.

I'm trying to decide if moving to the Schaumburg area means I will have to give up shooting. I grew up around Peoria, there was no problem finding places there. Northeastern IL may not be possible.

There used to be the St Charles Gun Club in Elburn when I lived there 20 years ago. I don't know if it's still in operation.

A forum member, hsguy, is a member at the Sycamore IL Sportsmen's Club. You should PM him to ask about details.

I know there's a large range out near Polo IL but I don't know any members there.

Good Luck.

I am a member of the Tri-County Gun Club near Polo. They have a website, but be sure you add IL to the Tri-County Gun Club part or you will find yourself in Oregon.

The club has a one hundred and two hundred yard range, and several handgun bays. There are trap fields, but no skeet. I believe the annual fee is around $100, and members receive a gate key.

Each Spring, usually the first weekend in May, there is a two day open house.

I'm not sure about Illinois Rifle Association's range near Bonfield, just outside of Kankakee..

Also a member of Tri County. It's worth the two hour drive.
In some cases you need your own target stand.

In the 1970s I shot at a range outside of East Dundee (near Elgin). I believe it was called Fox Valley Rifle Range or something like that.

Yep, off rt25. Spent many days there. Been closed for years now due to development and subdivisions.

I got my Weatherby eye at Fox Valley when I was 17. People from the area were always bringing in supposedly spent bullets from their gardens complaining of the gun range danger. So much BS.
