Forrest Carter only wrote 4 books before he died young. Three of the four were about Josey. "The Outlaw Josey Wales" and "Gone to Texas" were combined to make the movie. The fourth is a collection of tribal tales about Geronimo, or in other words, the Apache view point on Geronimo. (I had a friend from Apache Well, NM, that said he heard almost the exact same stories growing up in the 1960's from tribal story tellers)
