Ovaltine??

My Dad used to drink Ovaltine when I was a kid.

I tried it, it was OK, not anywhere as good as chocolate Quik IMHO.

I had no idea it was around anymore, but then I never looked for it either.

As for Hoppe's #9, it may be outdated and there are more modern cleaners out there, but AFAIC nothing will smell as good as Hoppe's #9.

JMHO YMMV

...., but I always preferred Nestle's Quik. Still do, and still drink it to this very day.

I had to check on Google to confirm that Nesquik was really called Nestle Quik in these parts ... :)

It is Amazon. I like a peach tea drink mix and was paying $ 19 for a large box. Ran low and went to order again and it was $68. Four months later it went back down to $19. Got to watch Amazon because they will put it to you sometimes.

I've never tried Hoppe's with chocolate syrup and don't plan to, unless it makes it smell better and still cleans pistols. Hoppe's stinks by itself.

Have a blessed day,

Leon

Never did get my Secret Squadron decoder ring, on YouTube there are some episodes of "Captain Midnight " (Richard Webb) saying "it will give you rocket power!". Yes, I do drink it.

The kids like it so much we have to get the version for ex US that comes in gallon coffee tins. It's a lot less sweet than the supermarket version.

We drank Ovaltine all the time as kids and I liked it. These days if I want hot chocolate I use Swiss Miss simply because it's easier needing only hot water instead of hot milk. I can get hot water from my Keurig but I don't have a hot milk dispenser.

I did not know, that Ovomaltine is internationally available, cool!

Though at times I had ovaltine in the UK during WWII (from Merchant Navy Captains/First mates who used to "kip" in our house when convoys came into Liverpool), I can still remember the "chocolate hard tack" that was made for lifeboat stores and had a life of 6 months (or earlier if the ship went down!") Once the expiry date was past, we were able to obtain it from the MN sailors and it was designed to be "carved off with a sailor's knife" and then added to water. We used to put it into hot water and since it had enough calories to maintain 4 men per day, you can imagine why a 4-6 year old child loved it. Dave_n

I think Ovaltine is still around mainly because of that Christmas Story. We bought it once when I was a kid, instead of Quick, and it got thrown out. 5 kids and none of us liked it! I use Hershey's syrup now because I put it on ice cream, too. And pie. And peanut butter sandwiches.

Does anyone know why Ovaltine prices went through the roof?
It used to be $5 plus change for an 18 oz can to astronomical.
I just saw a 12 oz jar for $20+ on Amazon.
I'm sure glad I've already sent for my Capt. Midnight Secret Decoder Ring.
Don't panic! :D

Not everything is competitively priced on Amazon. Like almost everything else, you need to shop around and be price conscious.

I don't think I've ever had Ovaltine in my life, but I just checked a few websites out of curiosity. Kroger has 18oz cans of Ovaltine "Rich Chocolate" for $6.79. Meijers has it for $5.99, Target for $5.69 and it's $5.37 at Walmart.
