overweight and best way to carry

My church opened a new campus, and my Pastor wants me to get ccw for transporting church reciepts. Don't know if that would work for statement in California, but on to the other question. Normally a huting type guy, the only option for cc is a recently purchased SW1911. I'm 5'8" and 250lbs construction worker. Being heavyset, what would be the best way to carry? thanks, JIM

Consider yourself lucky.... big guys have a lot of options!

Since you have a lot of "cover" already, I'd suggest using IWB carry methods.

I personally prefer the 1911 IWB at 2:30 on the strong side with an aggressive forward cant... my jelly rolls make this position look like a natural continuation of my torso. This can be pretty uncomfortable if you don't have the right holster. The 1911 IWB requires a "tab" on the safety side to keep it from biting. I have found the Bianchi Model 100, size 14 to be an excellent holster.

btw, good work getting cc license in CA! I've heard Northern CA is possible, but never seen one, personally...

Off the topic...and I'm not at all familiar with CA law...but in TX doing what you are proposing to do is illegal unless you possess a valid armed commissioned security officer license. You might want to consult a lawyer before proceeding.

I am about your size, slightly taller and currently the same weight, although I have been heavier. I find that OWB works very well. Something along the lines of simply rugged sourdough pancake or the El Paso Saddlery Tortilla.

I'm not sure what the Yolo County Sheriff requires to show good cause, but I understand that it is not quite as restrictive as Sacramento County, although more restrictive than Placer County.

Photoman-In California it is legal to do what he proposes as long as he is not being paid to do it. If he is a church employee he would need a Guard Card and an Exposed Weapons Permit. If he were contracted by the church to do it, he would need a PPO (Private Patrol Operator) license and an Exposed Weapons Permit. He would not be allowed to carry concealed under these conditions. If he is just a church member volunteering to take the weekly offering to the bank, then only a CCW would be required, and then only if he chose to be armed.

In Texas it is not legal to carry into the bank without a special license, but your CHL will get you into the parking lot. Then you've got to discreetly lock that gun up and hope they don't jump you in the parking lot.

Or you could go through a drive through bank no problem. Just watch your 6.

County is saying that since you live in the city they won't issue. City is saying since you don't work there, they won't issue. such is life in CA. There is no next.

I am plump and I have a 5 shot 38 smith airweight in my front pocket as I type. It is my usual carry peice. I would suggest you also put the money in paper sack or such. Carrying a bank bag will cause bad attention too.

There is no restriction on carrying into a bank in Texas unless they post the proper sign; just like any other private business in the state can do.

Correct. Banks have never been prohibited premises in TX unless posted with a sign consistent with Sec. 30.06, Tex. Pen. C. In fact, banks are not even mentioned in the CHL statute. As a practical matter, banks are unlikely to be posted. We had a few do it around here early on, and the combination of well-to-do CHL-holder customers moving their money and lawyers like me advising the banks to remove them eliminated virtually all such signs.
