I just ordered a set of these for my 66 square butt. I wanted to know what people thought of these grips. I would also like to see any pictures you might have of your gun wearing these grips.

Sir, once upon a time, the first thing buyers of new Smith revolvers did was take off the factory grips and put on Pachmayrs. Been there, done that.

A lot of people look down their noses at "rubbers" today, but they were popular for a good reason: Rubber grips that cover the backstrap take a lot of the sting out of shooting the big magnums. I keep a set in my parts box just in case I'm ever bitten by the .44 magnum bug again.

Hope this helps, and Semper Fi.

My Model 19-4 has been wearing a pair since 1980. As Ron H. indicated it was almost standard procedure with a new S&W to put on Pachymers. I bought my gun in March of that year. The Pachymers were on before summer. They may not be in vogue now- but they fit my hand and give me a secure grip. I'll probably never change them- they do what I want them to do. Besides after nearly 30 years I'm real comfortable with the gun as is- no need to change now.

Just be sure they fit well. The packaging warns you that there's some variation in grip frames, and so one size does not necessarily fit all... at least, not perfectly. I've handled more than one square butt S&W wearing Pachmayrs that wobbled back and forth just a bit because of this, and no amount of screw tightening immobilizes them. It didn't interfere with handling or shooting, but it does put the finish at risk.

A little wobble, a little grit under the rubber, and voila: a ruined finish. I've got a M58 in the re-blue bin at the factory right now, because when I took the previous owner's Pachmayr Signatures off, I found they'd ground a bright arc of white metal underneath. I rather suppose this problem isn't peculiar to the Pachmayr brand, either.
