Quick question. I just bought two pair of Pachmayr Gripper Grips for a new 29 classic and a new 586 classic both are square butts. The grip for the 29 fits fine; however, the grip for the 586 the hammer spring is in the way and blocks the grip screw.

I think I have heard about this before but before I send the grip back and ask for a refund I may just ask for an exchange based upon what I learn here.

Has anyone recently put on Pachmayr Gripper grips on a 586 classic and did they fit? Just trying to determine if I got a fluke. I know I can call Pachmayr but I prefer to hear from the forum.

Thanks

I received a PM from another forum member which triggered the following:

Thank you - that was it. When the grips where fully seated it was impossible to pass the screw from one side to the other. The screw was made with threads then a narrower shank and then the head. I had to fully seat the screw into the first grip panel then thread it beside the hammer spring in order to reach the female thread. Otherwise the thread blocked its travel to the other grip panel. Your question of is the screw tapered triggered the above. I appreciate it.

Did it occur to you to cock the hammer while installing the stocks? :p

This is common with some Pachmayr stocks. Why Pachmayr does not design their moulds to move the screw back just 1/16" is beyond me. If it is any consolation, and there is no reason it should be(!), this sometimes occurs with factory stocks too.
