Hi guys. I tried a search on this, but aren't having any luck & hope you can help please.

I like wood grips, but when its hot outside & I'm active and likely to sweat a lot, I like to use Pachmayr Presentation grips. I have these on a S&W 329PD (round butt). My question regards the sizing of N frame grips. In the past, did Pachmayr offer a Large and Small versions of the N frame Presentation grips ? Is there only one size of these grips for a square butt N frame ? Also, I thought I've seen Presentation grips that are supposed to fit both square butt & round butt N frames, - was I mistaken ? Thank you for any help you may offer in answering these questions.

I'm no expert, but I can tell you that Pachmayr at least USED to make two sizes for N frame S&W square butt revolvers: "large" and "small". I don't know the dimensions, but I find the "large" too bulky. I like the "small" Presentation N-frame Pachmayrs. That's what I just put on my 629-3 Classic Hunter (in last month).

Some versions have the Pachmayr bronzed logo on it, some don't. I don't care either way whether the round Pachmayr logo is present or not-the pair I picked up off ebay (<$20, as new, shipped) is "plain" (no logo).

I find the factory S&W target grips too bulky and thick. I like the "small" presentation grips (have them on both my K/L frames and the afore mentions 629-3). Two reasons: the small size is thinner, and fits my hand better (I'm 6' tall with large palms, and medium fingers). Secondly (and more important for me) is the pointability. The grips fill the upper area in the rear of the grip where your webbing (between thumb and index finger). It makes the sight picture point slightly "less up" for me (for me it's dead on).

Famed Border Patrol agent Bill Jordan designed a pair of grips for some company (Herrett? ), called the "Jordan Trooper". They have this same "upper rear frame-filling" grip design (he hand huge palms, and it helped him make his model 19 more pointable). I find these small Presentation grips in the same design mold. The Pachmayrs are also softer than the "jordan trooper grips", so it cushions recoil a bit.

That's what I know. Hope it helps. "Small" N frame Presentation grips seem to be a bit tougher to find than the "large" Presentation N frame grips-not IMPOSSIBLE. You just have to be patient. They are out there.

The inside of the Presentation grips are marked (injected molded into the grip) on the inside "small" or "S" , or "Large" or "L".

Hope you find the size that suits your needs. I like wood grips to-but tyhey have to fit. I just find the small Pachmayr Presentation grips to be "just right" for my hands.

@ catboat -- great post you submitted.I would like to add one thing regarding the large size grip. The original two piece design felt solid when gripping the gun, where the one piece was very spongy in the front. The latter was really poorly designed since it had such a thin amount of rubber making up the front of the grip.

catboat & Laketime - thanks very much guys for your comments. They were very helpful & helped cleared up some things for me. A few years back I handled a couple of M28s in two different gunshops. I came across these square butt N frame revolvers within the same month. Both of them had Pachmayr Presentation grips on them, but I swore that one of them felt bigger in the hand than the other. I went back to the shops to clear up the mystery, but the one with the smaller feeling grip had been sold. At the time, I wasn't sure if I had imagined the size difference.
I appreciate your help clearing this up for me.
The Presentation grips on my 329 are my favorite synthetic type. I find that finger grooves don't seem to quite line up for me when quickly drawing from a holster, and don't like softer, rubbery type grips which hang up on clothing and print (like rubber Hogues).

Best regards - - -

Can anyone confirm whether a round butt N frame will fit sqaure butt Presentation grip? I could not find one for round butt anywhere. Thanks

FewShots Welcome to the Forum. I own a N frame gun with wood grips on it. I do have the Pachmeyers for it but don't use them at all. I use wood because of serious nerve damage in both hands. If it is not wood I can not feel the shape of the grip at all.

I have a couple of sets of each of the two sizes. As far as I have ever noticed the only difference is about 5/16" of an inch additional length.
I like both sizes for shooting, but they sure aren't very pretty.
