Does anyone have any information on the Padgett Brothers in Dallas? I have a model 28 that was shipped there January 20, 1955 (S1202xx). The 28 ended up on a ranch north of Del Rio and I am wondering about its travels. Thanks

I don't know anything about them but let me know if you want to sell it. It was shipped 10 days before I was born. Got any pictures?

No, no pictures at this time. It is a four inch w/target grips. Not much wear. If I decide to sell, which is doubtful, I will keep you in mind.

Guero, Did you do a Google search? i got a hit that the Padgett Brothers were , circa 1900 era, tailors in Dallas. Try an internet search of the Dallas business directory for 1955. Good luck, Ed.

Padgitt Bros. Saddlery was located in Dallas;they also had a retail supply operation dealing in western clothing, tack, sporting goods, etc. I have owned several Padgitt Brothers holsters.Don't know if we're talking about the same
outfit-Padgett vs. Padgitt.

Thanks to both of you for the information.
Opoefc: I had googled it but thought the tailors was a long shot thanks anyway
Turnerriver: Thanks for the holster idea. I thought I could remember a saddle maker by that name but didn't know they did holsters. Something else to watch for.
There was a thread on this forum dated May, 2006, addressing Wolf and Klar but the search here turned up something on Padgett Brothers in that thread. It is, unfortunately, deleted or has been put somewhere I can't find.
Again, thanks to both of you.

There was a Padgett Brothers Sporting Goods (I believe that was the full name) that sold outdoors equipment and photography equipment in Dallas when I moved here in the late 1950's. Something in the back of my mind makes me think that they merged with Cullum & Boren Sporting Goods in Dallas but I can't confirm that. I think I last saw them in the 60's. Padgett's was a well known merchant's name. I believe that there is still a Padgett's Printing Co in Dallas and there was a Padgett's Artist Supply in Waco in the 1950's.

I have a .38 M&P # C2389xx, that shipped to Padgett Brothers Co. Dallas on May 11, 1953 and have seen others, including some leather.

Guero, I think your M28 could have easily have been purchased by the rancher on a trip to Dallas while his wife was shopping at Neiman-Marcus.

Thanks to Lee for the direction on searching and thanks to Bettis1 for the story lead. 1955 was a tough year for ranchers, middle of a drought, price of sheep and goats way down. Where that fellow got the money for M28 is the question but I'm going with the idea he was on a shopping trip to the big city with the family. I am headed back to the Border on Monday, maybe I can do a follow up.

Guero,

Be careful down there...and don't drift across the line if you get on Falcon Lake!
