Paint Project

What kind of clear did you use? I was looking at one called "Clear Gloss" and decided not to get it until I asked.

I used rustoleum clear mat. Got it from home depot

That's what I needed to know. I only saw the Gloss finish at Home Depot and didn't think that was what I should get.

Did you use a primer?

Did you paint the charging handle? If so did you take it apart?

Dont use the gloss unless you want a shiney 22 lol. No primer used. I didnt want it to be too thick on the gun. The charging handle I ordered from NDZ performance in fde. It wouldnt be hard to paint tho. Its aluminum instead of the factory plastic handle.

The handle isnt hard to access. Just take out the take down pins and separate the lower from upper. The whole bolt assembly will then slide right out. The handle just sits on top of it.

Wondered how well the handle will hold the paint. Might just try it out when I do the other parts.

Yea if its constantly rubbing against the inside it wont last long. What color are you going with?

Not sure yet. Was thinking of trying to match the FDE. I am planning on painting the stock, forend and grip. I was thinking of trying to paint the barrel to look like a stainless steel one.

The only color I saw at HD was a camo color. I plan on going there again and bringing a part that is FDE and trying to match it as best I can. But I have to find the clear matt since the gloss they had isn't what I want.

You might be better off just buying the handle and stock in fde since they are handled quite a bit. And with them being plastic the paint isn't going to hold up to that much abuse. I was thinking about getting new grips, would u be interested in buying mine? They're magpul fde

My thought was to paint the stock while I wait to buy a better one. Mine is the standard stock, rattles like heck.

I have a nice grip that I like but the though of painting it is just an idea. Still thinking about painting the barrel a stainless steel color, if I can find the right paint.

I need some help deciding what barrel shroud would look good with this gun. I like spikes clean look but I also like kinetitecs shrouds

Lol no, the barrel wasnt even installed either. I just threw everthing together to get some photos after I assembled everything back together.

looks good, now don't cry when it scratches!!! It's paint, not a 'coat'! If you do anything besides range work with it ie hunt, it'll look like heck after a season or two of being in the brush.
then you start over! or just touch up the scratched bits.

Thanks, it won't see much woods. Just plinking here and there with the kids
