Painting Front Sight on a Fixed Sighted K Frame

I was going to paint the front sight on my 6 inch 617 in something hi-viz, but somehow ended up buying a 4X scope to put on it instead. Damn that late night internet shopping!

I've had good luck with automotive touch up paints in the little bottles with built in brushes. Make sure you clean the sights first. I mainly use denatured alcohol and a Q tip.

Couldn't agree more! Prep is the most important step!

I use to use safety orange flat paint.Has no glare, and looks good on the gun.I use to go all the way down to the bottom because I never could stop half way and have a straight line across. You can buy a small can for under $10.00 at most hardware stores.Personally I think fingernail polish looks like fingernail polish on a gun, cheap and gawdy.

I like orange touch-up paint. Doesn't last forever, but lasts OK and easy to reapply.

Liquid Paper and White-Out are flat white lacquer's . Nail polish is lacquer also . Nail polish remover is lacquer thinner with some additives to be gentle on the cuticles (oils)
Lacquer thinner and acetone will thin and remove them both. I find white out works as is for a white sight and as a good base coat for a color, it makes the color appear brighter.
I have found the new pen applicators easier to apply with than the old brush. Practice with the pen and you can even make nice round small white dots...can't do that with a brush !

No , acetone or nail polish remover will not affect blueing, it does remove oils so after getting sights done and dry wipe the metal with an oily/silicon rag , don't want any rust to happen.

A few of the previously owned revolvers I bought had painted front sight blades.

The first thing I did was remove it.Luckily it usually comes off with a finger nail or tooth brush.

White was the most common color I encountered and one in canary yellow.

Here is my Model 65 front sight. Testors flat white for the base coat and orange for the color. To figure out how many serrations down from the top to paint, I experimented with a piece of blue masking tape. One I got it figured out I just counted the serrations up from the bottom and left those unpainted.
