Love of my life coached me thru a pan of fried squirrels, taters and gravy!! YUM..all I can say is thank God for freedom, hickory nut trees and a .22 rifle!...once a redneck, always a redneck
MMMM! Squirrels and wabbits; good eatin'.
I ate a lot of rabbit years ago,but never had squirrel. Similar?
We always squirrel hunted in the spring and fried the young ones. If old
my mom stewed and made dumplings with those.
I'm always amused at those who turn their nose up at squirrel, rabbit or
other game but will hog down brats, bologna or other processed ground
up whatever.
I always imagine the first person that said: "let's chop up the innards of this critter, mix it with some of that stuff growing over yonder, stuff it into its intestines, hold it over a fire and then eat it."
Probably the same person that cracked open an oyster and said: "damn, this looks tasty!"

Having been born and raised in the mountains of West Virginia (think Blair Mountain) I represent that remark!...once a redneck, always a redneck
Having been born and raised in the mountains of West Virginia (think Blair Mountain) I represent that remark! We didn't know we were redneck until the kind folks from other places told us we were. Squirrel with gravy is pretty good. Better then opossum and raccoons. Try it sometime, you just might like Squirrel.
That would be an affirmative.
