I came across a very short article about how to do your own bullet lubing. It did not go to much in detail. "You can save money and use your own favorite recipes by pan lubing he said, he liked PRS" I'm new to this fourm and casting, so how do you pan lube, and how do you make a recipe? Thanks beng

beng,
Usually we can be pretty helpful here with all of your reloading questions. The fact of the matter though is that there are already good resources available to answer your questions.

Here is one spot that you need to check out:
http://goatlipstips.cas-town.com/panlubing.html

If you are going to cast your own bullets, you need to be a member on this forum too. Lots of help there:

I hope this helps!

Pan lubing is a distinct pain in the rear end. I t involved setting the bullets in a pan of melted lube, allowing the lube to cool and solidify and the removing the bullets with a "cakle cutter"fashioned out of an old brass cass of the particular bullet caliber. Good idea if you are going to lube 50 bullets a month and have loads of time on your hands but I prefer my Star sizer/lubricator.

Agreed. Hand casting is bad enough, pan lubing makes it real drudgery. I only do it for my BPCR rifle match bullets. Pistols get bulk commercial cast.

Mixing your own lube is an added chore. A friend made up two recipes. One is ok but it is not much less expensive than commercial due to the cost of lanonlin and beeswax. The other is a total bust and he is using it a lump at a time for casting flux.

Smithcrazy - thanks for posting the link to goatlips' site. Good explanation and pictures of his method. I have about 100 or so boolits to lube and will give a try. Most of the time I just buy the boolits already lubed.

Pan lubing is pretty easy once you make a batch of lube, I use a loading block and put the bullets nose down and then put a loaf style silicone pan and flip them in and pull the block out. 80 44 or 45 cast bullets lined up. Melting you lube is a pain,But once the lube cools, the whole thing comes out in a block and all you do is punch them out. Dont break the block of lube. When I need to lube more I put the block of lube back in the pan and put new casts in the holes where the first batch of bullets came from and apply heat from a heat gun. The lube melts around the bullets quick and you have another batch. Ive done this at least 5 times with the same block of lube not having to add more lube. The amount in the grooves is so small it lasts along time. 1 lb white bees wax,1 lb parafin,1/2 lb vasaline jelly and 2 crayons for color. I use a single stage partner press from rcbs that came with everything I need and it works great. Good luck

Thanks guys. I have a 357 and a friend is helping with casting. I am retired and I do have a lot of time on my hands. Thank you, Smith Crazy for that web, it looks to be the thing for me, and I'm USMC (ret) 1960-1984)

Yes, and a Lee push through sizing die is what, around $20. I've pan lubed for 45-70 in the past but would have to be desperate or bored to do it again.
