I have noticed many threads on the prices and supply and demand on ammo and firearms.
I called a GS yesterday to see if they had any 5.56 ammo. They said yes, so I headed that way. When I got there it was all gone.
It was American Eagle, 100 rounds for 49.00. The person at the store said that it really went fast. Now I know that is not a real good price, but I was not going to pay the 1.00 or more per round that many are selling it for.
I have noticed one thing, that the price of AR's is starting to get a little better. Six weeks ago they were going for 1500.00 to 2800.00. Lately I have seen the same models going for 1100.00 to 1400.00, so there is some hope.
I noticed a week ago that 22 ammo was selling at one store for 90.00 a brick, and it was selling.
I am taking a break from buying anything at these prices unless it is a Smith and Wesson:D:D
I was thinking of buying an AR 22 version. I went to an auction and they had one there, It was the Mossberg with the laser sight. The sight sold for 40,00. The auctioneer was selling the rifle and asked for 600.00. Then 550.00 and then 500.00, and someone actually bid on it, That was the only bid that they got.
I think that this example is what is going on with the sales. They do not care what they pay as long as they get it. I do not know how long this will go on, but it sure takes the fun out of trying to buy.

Is this a problem nation wide? I'm living in Arkansas and I can't get my hands on any ammo. When local Pawn & Gun shops get a shipment in the price is outrageous and it doesn't stop the panic stricken.

You have to move fast, especially when you see the guy in front of you going in with a two wheeler.

Yes it is. Wally world hasn't had any ammo on their shelves except for duck and goose. No pistol, rifle ect. I didn't even see any black powder. This has been going on since the Sandy Hook shootings. They get ammo in and the dog robbers hoard it or sell it at gun shows. Powder & primers are also hard to get. Same for reloading equipment as well, they just cannot make the stuff any faster or keep it in stock. Frank

I wish all these "hoarders" would get their supply bought so the market would return to normal. That's what happens when people who don't actually do any shooting get in a panic that they may have to actually do some in the future and want to be sure they have theirs. I'm glad I have maintained a supply for all calibers I shoot so I don't fall into this category. This has happened before, and within a year the "hoarders" will be tired of holding oto excess ammo, and go to sell it ans wonder why they can't get but less than half of what they paid for it.

Was just in the Sportsman's Warehouse in the Denver area. They had a few pounds of 410 powder, some of the less popular sizes of shotgun shells and that was it. No powder, no primers, no bullets, no brass, no ammo. Sure glad I've been though this before and planned ahead -- this is the worst I've ever seen it.

I was at Fleet Farm yesterday and the counter guy told me they got in 12 cases of ammo a few days ago.

It took 17 minutes to sell out, and they limit each customer to 10 boxes.

He said as soon as anyone sees they have ammo, the first thing they do is throw 10 boxes of each caliber in their cart, then whip out their cell phone and call for backup.

I doubt they will sell, they will just hang on to it until it is used up or sold at their estate auction. The "I won't lose money under any circumstances" mindset is too ingrained. At least one member here confessed that the current lunacy allowed him to get rid of an AR15 he bought at a high price in November 2008.

The buying orgy has sucked the supply pipeline, which normally holds a 6-12 month supply, completely dry. Best estimates I am hearing range from 6-9 months before supplies catch up to the demand. I will wait till the market corrects

This is just sick. I've got a Kimber TLE II ordered, and I actually believe that I won't even have any ammo to test fire it when it arrives.

I went thru Cabelas today. Didn't take long. The little mother hubbard outfit's cabinets were bare. Not even a bone for this old dog. I reload and almost bought dies and bullets for my 44 Mag, but they did not have powder for the listed loads. I probably should have bought the bullets, they only had one box of Nosler 240 grain Jacketed HP's. Did not look at primers after I saw there wasn't any powder.

They had black powder, I looked at the Pietta Navy's and Armys thinking blackpowder might be the way to shoot pistols, but decided to leave without any purchases.

At first I thought it was me, some how I missed out on the love revolution in the 60's but later found out I was dating nice girls. But I see too many here looking for love in all the wrong places too.

Observation

Howdy,
I have been watching. It seems to me there is more stuff listed on line than there was a month ago.
I expect a lot of folks are scalping what they find at Wal-Mart or other places.
Prices are still stupid and items are selling but the amount of .22 ammo and primers on Gunbroker seems larger than it was .
Maybe it will start letting up.
Thanks
Mike

In 2008 I was just starting to get into the gun craze. Then the shortages and frenzy hit and I couldn't find ammo. After it calmed down I swore I wouldn't be caught short on ammo again. Well, I'm not short (on ammo or height), I have a small supply because other "things" came up and required my money. Now I have reafirmed to myself that as soon as things calm down I am buying more and stocking up on ammo......again.

Same thing around here (central Indiana) no ammo other than
shotgun shells and an odd box of 30-30 or 7MM. And no bullets,
powders to be had either. I just check out of curiosity as i have
plenty. I started accumulating slowly when B.O. first got elected
and now it is paying off. Seeing .22LR sell for 90 bucks a brick of
500 rds. will stay with me for sometime. Unbelievable......

Yeah, you shoulda' bought the dies. And the bullets. And looked for primers while you were there. They don't have an expiration date.

Just in time for Fall hunting!:D Maybe the price for ammo will be reasonable. I have enough reloaded for my deer rifles and enough rimfire for squirrel so I guess I should be set until maybe--- oh next year or two or five.:) In any event, I am not a part of the current ammo madness.

I am starting to see online retailers selling pistol ammo, but no .22 ammo yet. I got lucky and bought a box containing several boxes of .22 ammo from a man who had quit shooting. I am seeing .45acp with brass cases for $24.95. Kind of high, but do-able.

I almost felt bad advertising small pistol primers for $50 per thousand locally--until I saw another local ad $80 per thousand, and another for $7 a sleeve of 100.

The wild card has yet to be played. Congress has not been pushed to vote on any gun bills. I'm waiting for the market correction as well. Got enough to last 6-12 months. Just hoping we get to see one more correction.

This is just sick. I've got a Kimber TLE II ordered, and I actually believe that I won't even have any ammo to test fire it when it arrives.

I got a Stainless TLE RL II back in August or September. I had thought of getting a 1911 for several months, then one day something clicked and I knew it was time. I think I had put off getting a 1911 due to being overwhelmed by all of the choices. That particular Kimber met all the requirements I wanted in one for the same price as the Springfield and S&W models that almost met all of my requirements.

2-3 days after the election was my last ammo purchase. I would have bought more had I known what December had in store for us. I hope you can get some ammo when you pick up the Kimber. You're going to love it!

You can usually find ammo in stores that don't sell online and stores that you don't usually think of selling guns but sell sport equipment. For 20ga steel, I usually buy from the local Big 5 and I've found .357 ammo (w/brass casings) at Sports Authority even during this panic.

If you find they are out of stock at your particular store then ask them if you can order it from another store in their chain.

If you really want to cry, take a drive over to Canada and stare at all the ammo and reloading supply still in stock there.

Even if you're right and the market does correct itself, as soon as prices become close to attractive If I were you I'd lay in and maintain a minimum 24 month stash.

Minimum.

I dont think the hoarders are really the problem because any real hoarder has a supply and wont be a sucker paying these prices. Its the people tryin to make a buck that are screwing us once we stop buying for ridiculous prices then the guys doing the buying will leave the shelves alone for us. Its sad that people are paying 600 a case of 9mm but if there gonna keep buying it then those guys will keep raping the shelves for it. Thats a pretty good profit for hanging out at walmart with your buddies waiting for them to open

I was in my favorite LGS just yesterday and the owner, who is a good friend of mine, said the exact same thing. While the handgun cases are still empty except for a few revolvers, large framed .45s and some Glocks, he did have a small supply of .22 and .223 ammo on the shelf. He also had a little of just about any type of ammo but not much at all. He also had boxes full of used AR15 30 round magazines available which really surprised me. The verdict is still out as we await whatever it is that's going to happen on the hill.

Another thing I believe is starting to happen is people who bought the ARs up for no reason other than fear are starting to bring them back in. I was looking at two new Bushmaster ARs yesterday that were still a little pricey. A well known and good buying customer walked in with a S&W M&P15 that he had just bought a month ago and said "I don't know why I bought this in the first place but I'd like to sell it." After he completed his business, I was offered the gun, two rear sights, six 30 round magazines, and 4 boxes of ammo for $900 OTD. I couldn't resist that one!

Just 30 days ago I could have sold that same package for :

M&P15 $1,600
Sights $200
Mags $450
Ammo $100

Total $2,350. You made out well! ;)
