I gave up being a "collector" some time ago, but I recenty purchased a really nice Model 18-2, that has what I assume to be the original two piece box. The only thing in the box is the yellow anti-rust paper that the gun came wrapped in.

What else would have been in it? It's been a long time since I saw a "box and papers" package. The S/N dates it to 1965. There would have been some kind of manual I assume, warranty card, screwdriver (SAT) and such.

Any realistic chance of finding that kind of stuff? Even reproductions? Is there even such an animal?

Goofy things I think about early in the morning.

All that stuff is available on Ebay...Your original numbered box would be the key part to the set. I'm sure if you keep your eyes open on auction sites, an original manual won't be hard to come by...The oiled "S&W" waxpaper is available as well as other original accessories. I would also post a WTB on this site.

If I didn't have the gun that matched the original box, then I wouldn't fool with it... In your case, I probably would keep my eyes open for a couple of the original packing items. If nothing else, the wax paper is there to inhibit rust on your gun, so it serves a functional purpose as well.

I had the gun on layaway at the shop. When I went to pick it up, they'd misplaced the box  . I was glad I had taken that picture. There IS a box. FIND THE BOX! I think they turned the place upside down, but were able to find it stuck in the wrong cabinet.

I don't keep it in the box, but in gun sock in the safe. The box is on the shelf with all the other boxes (all from much more mundane guns).

I'll have to keep watching e-bay. It's not really a "want" or a "need" just something to hunt for.

Thanks for the tips.
