S&W30-1 Lucky Find

I love seeing this kind of stuff. Keep them coming. I went to a little club show in Kenner,La. a month ago and one of the guys had one of these with a 3" barrel and a Tyler T grip. I really wanted it but the finish appeared to be hard chrome. He asked 450. I offered 350. The finish scared me. He said he had 450 in it and I didn't want to pay that. What tweaked my interest was I had one with a 2" barrel about 50 years ago. I lost it in a poker game and won it back a week later. Then I traded it in on something else. Back then I couldn't get a new gun without trading an old one. Not as much a problem now.

Hello Mike!

I seem to have ruffled some folks feathers and that was never my intent. I do not disagree with the reason for not reaming this particular revolver due to it's high condition so..... I'm sure you know why you bought the revolver but I wasn't sure you knew it was capable of withstanding the added pressure from the .32 H&R Mangum round. My suggestion was just that...a suggestion so enjoy your Model 30-1 as a safe queen or a shooter or even as a Magnum, always was your choice!

No ruffled feathers here either. Just offering an alternate opinion.
If it were mine and I was going to shoot it, I probably would see if I could find a SECOND cylinder that I could ream, while keeping the original pristine.
JMO.

Hello Mike, I've been led to believe that the Model 30-1 can be reamed to accept the 32 H&R Magnum round, if this of interest to you please take time to investigate, could be you will be able to shoot the .32 S&W Long as well as the .32 H&R Magnum, if you want to.

Just me but i would "ream" one of the other 3 he has. M-30 just too nice to alter.

I understood your intent and not sure why anyone else got ruffled.

Range Day

Took the 30 out to the range today and she shot like she should when I did my part. Took along the Taurus 327 also, and that little 2inch has some zip to it with full 327 loads. The great thing about the other 3 revolvers is they can all shoot 32 H&R, 32 S&W Long and 32 S&W, so I can feed the 30 some nice S&W Longs. I'm thinking a collector might cringe my shooting this gun, but I bought it to shoot and will give her all the TLC she deserves but no safe queen for sure.

Shooting doesn't really put very much wear on them. Carrying, weather conditions improper storage ( like in a leather holster or foam gun case which both can retain moisture) and overzealous cleaning do. Shoot and enjoy.

Just wiping the surface gently after handling with a silicon cloth or oil rag goes a long way in protecting a blue finish.
