I recently took a gun (LLAMA Max .45) out of storage and noticed surface rust. The Parkerized satin is substandard for a firearm so I'm not sure how to treat the rust without affecting the finish too much.

Any suggestions? (FYI: I had field stripped it about 6 months ago and wiped it down with Hoppes Gun oil. Also, it was stored in a non-humidity controlled environment but so were some other firearms and they were fine.)

Here's a pic and although it's hard to see the sharp edge at the top of the slide and the back of the trigger both have rust. Thanks...

wipe it down with what ever gun oil you use that will keep it looking good.

yes, you can "slather" it down,,with a bit of any sort of "rust oil" ( yes, even WD-40 ) and put it on a pad of say bronze wool, and lightly rub 'er down.....nice thing about 'parkerized' finish, you can touch it up with any of the cold blues, like 44-40 and then as said above, keep it oiled, thats what the finish is for, to "keep oil on the surface better....." that finish does clean up quite nicely...just do NOT get aggressive with any steel wools or such, you can remove the "crystalline surface,finish...."

I use Johnsons Paste Wax on a toothbrush and give it a good rubbing.
Remove the grips, and rub that paste wax into all the holes, crevices, and especially under the grips really well, and heat the steel in the oven at 140 for 30 minutes or so to open the pores and melt the wax. Then rub it down with an old T shirt rag.
It works for me up in the damp woods of Oregon.
