Enjoyed a Spring hike this morning, went up the mountain behind my house to a spot near the summit where I have placed some steel rifle and pistol targets. Took with me my CZ 527 Carbine in 7.62 X 39 caliber, and my Colt Diamondback revolver in .22 caliber. The trail goes up 700 feet in elevation, so it gets your heart rate up. Once I get up there, I do a little rifle shooting, practicing the rifle positions, prone, sitting, and standing. Finish up with a little pistol shooting.
Took some pics in the early morning sunlight. I just replaced the very nice walnut stock on the CZ 527 Carbine with a CZ synthetic one, to keep from beating up the walnut stock while hiking through brambles, and carrying it on my ATV in a scabbard. The Carbine:
Sling is a Czech Sub Machine Gun sling.....
Colt Diamondback with Safariland holster, spare magazine for the rifle in a Czech VZ52 magazine pouch, Remington "Camp" Bullet Knife, and some ammo for the guns:
The Diamondback is a pleasure to carry and shoot, light weight and accurate like you read about. I'm now on the hunt for a .38 Special version of this classic revolver.
Rifle target, shot prone, sitting and standing, from 70 yards:
This is a great spot to shoot, far enough away from the house and neighbors so they can't hear the noise. Not the farthest distance, only 70 yards, but pleasant, cool and shady in the Summer.
