I don't know how many Pirates, Braves, Expos and Yankees fans remember pitcher Pascuel Perez. Other than his two seasons of winning records, his big claim to fame with the Braves was missing the exit for Fulton County Stadium of of the I-285 loop and then doing two laps around Atlanta before he found the exit. It got him to the game around the seventh inning which was a little late since he was the STARTING PITCHER. If you've ever done a lap around Atlanta on I-285, you know how far (and fast) it is. I think he was arrested off season in the Dominican for cocaine possession and was not only traded by the Braves but suspended for the first time by MLB. I know he was suspended a second time when he reported to spring training with, IIRC the Dodgers and never made it back to the majors after an 11 year career with a 64-65 record. He was found dead this morning in the Dominican Republic by his ex-wife and the house showed evidence of being ransacked by several people apparently looking for money. One report said he suffered a fatal blow to the head and another said he was fatally stabbed. Don't know which or if both are true but it was a shame he wasted what could have been a good to great major league career for some South American product to put up his nose. In fact, it's a shame how many young kids are given more money than they've ever dreamed of, no guidance at all and and don't know how to handle the new found "friends" (vultures), the publicity and temptation of alcohol and drugs. Perez was 55 years old.
