Do I need a passport to go to Phillipines?

Jim

You'll also need a return ticket to show that you're leaving the country. While I was working there and not coming back to the US, I'd spend one weekend in Macao (China) every month to reset both my 1E business visa and to satisfy Philippine requirements. That was a really cheap flight and Macao is beautful, with some parts very much Las Vegas (with familiar casinos) mixed with Lisbon in the older business and residential areas.

Enjoy, and stay completely out of the Sulu Archipelago and anywhere on Mindanao (except Cagayan de Oro, Surigao City, or Davao - DO NOT stray into the countryside!). Palawan/Puerto Princesa is beautiful, as is most of the country. Both Iloilo and Romblon are undiscovered treasures.

For international flights, if you don't bring your passport and have a return ticket, you won't get pass the ticket counter

I work and live all over the world, including the PI. You don't need a visa to get in and you can stay up to 30 days without a visa. You can get, 30, 60 and 90 day extensions in lieu of a visa. Many get around this by taking a short trip to another country and returning, which re-starts the 30 day clock. Hong Kong, Singapore and Thailand are popular places for this. Having a US passport gets you in to most countries for 30+ days without a visa.

Yep, passport required for Philippines and yes it helps to go through customs passport stamp on the way in and out of country.
We flew into the country on a military charter plane. No customs involved. We left a month later and the passport people freaked out about it. We had a lot of documents and eventually they let us leave.
