Anyone make their own pasta?? As in egg noodles?? Wife of 49 years thinks She would like to start doing this.;) Being retired leaves time for such things. :) I have always believed stellar results begin with the best tools, be they S&W's or what ever. Any hands on input here as to what I should be looking at?? THANKS:)

we have the better grade stainless steel pasta maker for our Kitchenade mixer... they also make a plastic one. We used it all the time when we first got it for the mixer, less so now though... & it makes fairly good pasta... it is easily cleaned & can be put in the dish washer after you've hit it a good lick with the sink sprayer...Watch that you do not over use it.... noodles can be made tough by running them thru a pasta maker too many times... Home made noodles/pasta cook so much quicker than the dried pasta you get from the store too...

Not surprised to hear this-- I used to make my own pies and know you can work the dough too much-- :)

My wife makes great ones. all without tools. She rolls them out to required thickness and slices the strips with a knife.

I lied I said no tools, there is a rolling pin and butter knife.

They are delicious.

Tell her to get her recipe on line, and go for it.

There's nothing better than fresh pasta, once you start you won't want to eat the hard store bought stuff anymore.
It cooks FAST, so don't over do it.
Of course you need fresh grated Romano on top.
Sauce or gravy?

the varieties of pasta that you can make will astound you, eating pasta that has flavor will be a new experience for those used to only eating the commonly available dried commercial varieties...... As far as time wise... the time you save in less cooking time will be expended in prep & cleanup...but we felt that she made far superior pasta to what can be found...

:D sort of like reloading ;):D

My wife pours flour on the counter. Makes a hole in the middle. Puts eggs & stuff into the hole and hand mixes. Rolls it out and cuts into strips.
I got her an attachment for the big mixer and that makes the pasta uniform.

Here in Amish country locally made noodles are available from multiple sources for very reasonable cost. Of course my problem is being on a low (preferably no) carbohydrate diet. 😖 Even being retired doesn't help? 😢

I have a rack like that, but mine has underwear hanging from it. :)

You can make some really good pasta without a pasta maker. Roll out your dough as thin as you want it, roll it up, and cut slices off the roll, like stromboli. A good way to find out if you really want to make pasta at home before investing in a pasta maker.

It was fun for me a couple of times, but the clean-up got really old - flour everywhere. But maybe you are neater in the kitchen.

I purchased everyone in the family a kitchen aid mixer with the pasta maker attachment. We had the hand crank Italian pasta maker for decades. I figured when we get invited for dinner I get fresh pasta. Every holiday we make fresh pasta.

My misses did make noodles by hand and roll then and cut them by hand 42 years ago.

mother-in-laws church women's group use to make pasta for years .. 200 - 250 1/2 pound bags every couple of months and sell them .. use to buy 10 bags at a time .. they quit doing it for some reason .. think all the ladies got too old .. I sure do miss those home made noodles ..
