Started watching this show (name?) that takes place in Las Vegas. That was soon followed by a show called Cajun Pawn Stars. Now there is a show called Hardcore Pawn out of Detroit Michigan. It is said to be Reality Tv but is too funny to be anything but comedy.

The store is run by a father and his two dysfunctional children. While there may be at least one legitimate transaction per episode the rest of the 30 minutes is nonstop craziness. I think the highest paid person on the show is the one manning the "bleep" button. They obviously have the hardest job.

While some of the show is about people bringing in something to pawn most of it is people in long lines waiting for their turn at one of the numerous windows. I'm already thinking of a new reality show called Hardcore DMV.

Everyone should see this show at least once for a good laugh.

The last time I was in the DMV there were 5 females behind the counter and the line was about 25 people long. One of the ladies was on the phone the entire hour I was there. There were two in a backroom with the door open, talking the entire time I was there. (Long lunch break at 2PM?) The other two ladies were handling the customers. I now try to use the online services of the DMV when ever possible.

Found a " remote DMV office" that is pretty quick, stay away from the main ones.
As for tv pawn shows, the producer needs a reality check, what a joke, they are ALL set ups.

In my state found that to be true decades ago. Go to a big state DMV office and no telling what your experiences will be. (normally good for a serious rise in blood pressure)

Go to a county run office and its a whole new world. Even during the atmosphere of all the serious covid things you could take care of business.

As far as the Cajun Pawn Show if you watch it you might see a couple people that post on this forum.:D

Cajun Pawn Stars ended in 2012. Hardcore Pawn production ended in 2014. The original Pawn Stars is the only one still going strong . . .

I knew these pawn shows weren't new because of a lot of reruns in a short period of time. Doesn't make them any less entertaining to watch.

You take what you're given when your TV is OTA.

Around here it depends on what County you are in. Denver is notorious for bad service while Arapahoe County operates by appointment. You come a few minutes ahead of time and log in and you are out in maybe 15min max.

As for these numerous reality shows...It's the viewer that needs the reality check.

And it's totally scripted and FAKE.

Well, a real pawn shop video would be really boring. My understanding is that the items coming in are not a surprise, the research has been done in advance, and the potential sellers are aware of what's about to happen. The Pawn Stars website lets one offer an item for pawn or sale, so the aforementioned can be arranged.

I am also in Colorado and had a very pleasant surprise last month. My DL was due for renewal in November so I went on-line to check on scheduling an appointment, hours of operation, etc, now that we are stuck in the new Covid era.

Over 70, so I would ordinarily be required to take the eye test as a minimum and I expected to jump through some hoops to get it done.

Surprise! A link on the Colorado DMV website allowed me to renew my license on-line! All I had to do was attest to having had a vision test within the past 3 years. Cataract surgeries in both eyes a couple of years ago, so I had certainly undergone several vision tests! Filled in the on-line form, entered my credit card info, received my new license in the mail the following week.

Best part is that the picture they are using is now 10 years old!

coltle6920, you are SO Right. Am totally dismayed by all the No Driving moroons on the roads these days. By chance not on phone or some other device some seem to be dancing while driving , swerving off the road and across middle lines. Then there are the stone drunks, saw guy loose the fender well liner when he went off the road hitting a storm drain last week. Of course the worst are the ones going 5-10 mph Below speed limit in Left Lane……

Last year, Mrs. Pawncop and I took a road trip out West and went through Las Vagas. Located the Gold and Silver shop and stopped in for a quick visit. There were a few items I recognized from episodes, but otherwise just a routine pawn shop, with a bit more high end art works.

I know of one individual who was on the program and he laid out how it works. It is scripted but that's not a problem.

I do still watch the program for the history of the items, I really dislike the side stories, but overall it's mindless entertainment.

I think Cajun Pawn Stars is the worst. Play ignorant when someone comes in and the next moment their able to give the full history of the item.

Worse yet is this...

Employee: How much do you want for this?
Customer: I'd like to get $1200.
Employee: I'll give you $200

Don't get me started on Storage Wars or Shipping Wars.

Rick himself has said that Gold and Silver is a T-shirt shop with a pawn license. The last time I went there all of the "normal" people was "asked" to leave so they could set up for filming. It looks totally different on TV than it does on non-filming days.

And yes it does have a walk up window so you can pawn your stuff after normal hours.

Oh, If somebody comes in with an interesting item they are asked if they can come back later to have their item put on the show.

My first job was in a pawnshop. My best friend ran it for his father, who owned it. Learned a lot, some fun and interesting times, and met some good people.

However, mostly it was a sad and depressing affair. Lots of people down on their luck pawning and losing stuff because they needed the money. Lots of fools dumping their late mother's jewelry to go to the casino or buy some junk at walmart. Lots of addicts scraping up their next fix. Lots of dirtbags trying to pawn stolen stuff. Lots of scammers trying to sell broken or fake stuff. Lots of self-proclaimed experts trying to tell us what things are worth. Lots of jerks who think pawnshops are garage sales and everything should cost a quarter....

Needless to say, you'd have to tie me to a chair to make me watch any of those shows.

Our BMV in Elyria is a joke. Long lines and long waits. Now you go into the building, get a number ticket, and you're told to wait in your car and they will contact you when it's your turn.

We needed to get updated DL's with our new address on them, so we went Wadsworth, OH to the BMV office there. Walked in and were taken care of immediately, so it was worth going the extra miles to get there.
